Chapter 3
"What's done is done. There's no use talking about it now. Let's just get some rest and deal with everything tomorrow," Yahya said.
Yahya slung his arm around Sophie and started up the stairs, with Myra following close behind, obviously itching for a fight. That left just Andrew and me sitting in the living room.
I spoke up.
"If you two eloped, why bother coming back?"
Andrew puffed out his chest, acting like he owned the place.
"Mom and Dad are getting older, and besides, women aren't naturally suited for the business world. Look at how the two companies have been managed under you two. There's no sign of expansion at all.
"Yahya and I have come back to take over the family businesses completely. We'll make the Lewis Group and Lane Group the leading companies in the entire industry."
His naivety was almost laughable. He'd been out fishing for twenty years, and now he thought he could turn the companies into industry giants. He really thought he was some kind of Big Mike.
All these years, we'd been pouring our energy into expanding overseas, so there had been no big moves at home. He didn't even have a clue about our future plans, yet he thought he could just swoop in and call the shots. What a joke.
We were worlds apart now. To me, he was just a fool, not even worth my time. I didn't bother saying another word and just got up to leave.
But he grabbed my hand.
"Jayleen, I know you're upset about losing the company. Don't worry. I'll marry you again and provide a safe haven for you.
I pulled my hand away and wiped it on the tablecloth, giving him a look like he'd lost his mind.
I asked, "Wait, you want to marry me? And what about Sophie? You just gonna pass her off to Yahya?"
I swear, their three-way drama was just too wild for me.
Andrew wasn't done yet.
He said, "I want to marry you for two reasons. First, for everything you've done for us all these years. Second, so people won't call Sophie the other woman. I'll bring you back as my wife.
"As long as you behave and don't mess with Sophie, I'll even share a bed with you, but no kids. Any children I have will be with Sophie, and only her."
I honestly had no idea how to deal with someone living in his own delusions.
I shot back, "Andrew, just so you know, I'm married. I want nothing to do with your drama, so don't drag me into it."
Andrew just wouldn't buy it.
He added, "No way. You're crazy about me. There's no way you'd marry someone else. You and Myra are still so close.
"I know you still have feelings for me, you're just too shy to admit it. Deep down, you know you belong to me."
Before I could even react, Myra stormed back in, grabbed the kettle, and dumped the water right over his head.
"Myra. I'm your brother," Andrew yelled.
Myra didn't give a damn about his rage. She just grabbed my arm and hauled me out, throwing back. "As far as I'm concerned, my brother's been dead for years."
Andrew shouted after us, "I was gonna put in a good word for you with Yahya, maybe even let you get close to him once in a while.
"But you actually dared to lay a hand on your own brother? Forget it. Don't even think about getting near Yahya again."
Myra had finally had enough. She gave a sharp clap, and two burly bodyguards showed up at the dining room door.
"Beat him up," Myra ordered.
The bodyguards shot forward like lightning, beating Andrew until he was bawling and begging for mercy. That finally took the edge off for us.
When my Mom and Dad heard that their beloved son had come back from the dead and was found again after being lost, they hurriedly cut short their vacation abroad to return home for a family reunion.
I swung by to pick up Myra and gathered everyone up to head over to the Lewis residence.
Yahya opened the door, and the second he saw Mom and Dad, he couldn't wait to start snitching about how Myra and I had been bullying him. But halfway through his complaining, his words just died in his throat.
