Chapter 4
This time, it wasn't just our parents and us. There were also two teenage guys tagging along.
Before I could even introduce the two guys to Yahya, Andrew came storming down the stairs.
He snapped, "Myra, why did you change everything in my room? Was this your doing? You brought that loser you married back and let him crash in my room? Put it back the way it was, right now."
He pulled us aside and pointed at Leroy.
Andrew scoffed, "So this is the broke guy who married my sister? Myra, you really need to dump him. I've already figured it out for you.
"Once I inherit the company, I'll hook you up with the Sellers family, the richest folks in Grovenwich. Trust me, that's way better than bankrolling this pretty boy."
I was honestly surprised he even knew about the Sellers family being the richest in Grovenwich, but I couldn't help but call him out.
I said, "Are you crazy? Both of the Sellers brothers are already married, you know."
Andrew shot me a cocky grin.
He said, "No worries, once I take over and expand the company, becoming the industry leader will be easy. The Sun family might not even be the richest then. All the talented young people in Grovenwich will be at my disposal."
He was way too full of himself.
Myra and I exchanged a look, both of us stunned by how cocky he was. She leaned in and whispered to me.
"Jayleen, do you think they've lost their minds in the past twenty years?"
Honestly, I was wondering the same thing myself.
Just then, Mom and Dad called out, "What are you all whispering about over there?"
Yahya sauntered over with a cheeky grin.
He chimed in, "Dad, Mom, Andrew's trying to convince Myra to ditch this pretty boy."
Mom and Dad frowned.
Mom said, "Yahya, what nonsense are you talking about? Pretty boy? This is Leroy Langley, your own brother."
"What?" Yahya blurted out.
Yahya looked incredulously between Leroy and his parents, trying to find any flaws in their story, but he failed. When the three of them were together, it was clear they were a family.
He kept mumbling, "Impossible," and reached out to push Leroy, but Dad reflexively blocked him.
Yahya totally lost it.
He yelled, "Dad, Mom, I'm supposed to be your one and only son. How could you just replace me like that? I was missing for twenty years.
"But did you ever think about what would happen if I came back? How could you just go and have another kid?"
Sophie was completely thrown off. Before coming back, she'd convinced herself that Jayleen would keep chasing after Andrew, so she'd nagged Andrew until he finally agreed to her plan.
She was all set to walk in and claim her spot as the lady of the Langley family, but only to find out there was another son in the mix.
For a moment, Sophie couldn't accept that her dream of becoming the lady of the house had just shattered. She stumbled back, landing perfectly in Andrew's arms.
Sophie buried her face in her hands, tears streaming down.
"Andrew, what's happening?" she sobbed.
Andrew didn't jump to back up Yahya. As soon as he heard the news, his eyes sparkled with opportunity, and he held Sophie tight, clearly plotting his next move.
He grinned. "Looks like Yahya can't give you the life you want, Sophie. Come on, you should just marry me instead."
Sophie acted all conflicted, but you could tell she wasn't really saying no.
She said, "But we had a deal. You were supposed to come back and marry Jayleen, and I was supposed to marry Yahya. That would make you my family. How could I just ditch Yahya now? We shouldn't be doing this."
Andrew was really working his charm, trying to win her over.
He said, "Three's a crowd, you know? The world's not built for that kind of mess. Just the two of us. That's how it's meant to be."
Yahya overheard and instantly lost it.
He snapped, "Andrew, you bastard. Trying to steal my girl right in front of me? Get out of here."
The two of them instantly started wrestling, leaving Myra and me completely stunned. It was like watching an episode of a soap opera.
Sophie was crying her eyes out, but she's not 25 anymore. Trying to use her old trick of playing the damsel in distress on me doesn't work. Besides those two who are blind to it, no one else could appreciate her delicate beauty.
"Please, don't fight over me anymore. Can't we just stick to what we agreed on?" she begged. "Jayleen, can't you make them stop? Just tell them you still want to marry Andrew. Maybe they'll finally quit it."
I reiterated once again.
"Seriously, can you all stop acting like the world revolves around you? I'm married, my kid's already a teenager, and I have zero interest in getting dragged into your messy group romance. Are you even listening?"
Sophie rushed over and hugged me tight.
She cried, "Jayleen, I know you still resent me, but you don't have to marry someone else just to spite Andrew. You two even got your marriage certificate back then. How could you just go off and marry another guy?"
