Chapter 3
"Angela, how could you show up looking so disheveled? You look just like an old housewife," she said.
"You're never as good as me. You only met Freddie a few years before I did, and you became his wife. But now, you're just an old and ugly housewife! How do you have the nerve to show up at such an important event? Leave before the reporters take your photo."
Watching her play with my necklace, I didn't hesitate and slapped her.
"That's my necklace. Give it back right now!" I shouted.
Joselyn let out a surprised cry, covered her face, and pretended to fall to the ground
Freddie saw the injured Joselyn through the crowd.
He rushed over, scooped Joselyn into his arms, and glared coldly at me.
"How dare you hit her?"
I looked at him. "She provoked me. She deserved it! Freddie, why is the necklace my mother gave me on her neck?"
Joselyn replied, feeling wronged. "It's all my fault. I couldn't find a necklace to match this dress. I heard Angela had a ruby necklace, and Freddie said it suited me, so he brought it over…"
I stared at Freddie in disbelief, my chest aching so much I could hardly breathe.
"You took my mother's keepsake to please her?"
Even though I found out about his affair last night, I never imagined he would treat me like this.
Grandma told me not to mention my family background to him, but I did tell him my mother died protecting me.
How could he give away the only keepsake my mother left me to someone else?
Freddie, feeling sorry for Joselyn, spoke angrily.
"Is this necklace something valuable? Once it enters my house, it's mine. I can let anyone wear it, and I don't need your permission."
"Angela, you eat my food, drink my drinks, and live off me. How do you dare question me?" Freddie said.
Before he could finish, I slapped him across the face.
Freddie didn't dodge and took the hit directly.
Joselyn screamed and hurried over to protect him.
"Are you out of your mind? Hitting someone just because of a broken necklace? He's a movie star! Do you know how valuable his face is?"
"Aren't you done making a fool of yourself?" Freddie yanked the ruby necklace from Joselyn's neck and threw it at me aggressively.
He snapped, "Here's that glass bead your poor mother left you. If Joselyn didn't like it, do you really think I'd want it?
"Stop making a fool of yourself outside. Take your necklace and get out of here now!"
The ruby necklace fell to the ground, scattering gemstones everywhere...
Seeing the central ruby shattered into pieces, it felt like our broken relationship, impossible to mend.
I finally broke down, completely heartbroken. I grabbed a tray and hurled it at him like I had lost my mind. "Freddie, you're truly despicable!"
The security guards grabbed me, and Freddie grew even angrier. He thought my outburst was humiliating.
"Angela, I have money and power now, and I'm still keeping you as my wife. Don't be foolish!" he barked.
How ridiculous. His status was built on my connections.
"I don't need your charity," I said, looking at him. "We're getting divorced!"
I would make him realize that without me, he'd have nothing left!
Freddie was stunned for a moment, then sneered. "Fine! Divorce it is! But all the money is mine. You have to leave with nothing!"
Joselyn's eyes suddenly lit up, and she smiled with joy.
Seeing how he pushed things to the limit, I felt even colder and angrier inside. Ignoring others' sympathy and ridicule, I turned and left.
Once outside, I immediately called my dad's assistant.
"Noel, withdraw all of the group's resources and projects previously invested in Freddie."
Freddie didn't come back in the following days.
I had no choice but to take the divorce agreement to meet him.
Freddie paused in silence, then sneered coldly.
He only glanced at the agreement before tossing it onto the table.
He looked up and spoke slowly. "Angela, you actually dare to divorce me? Are you trying to threaten me?
"You eat my food, drink my drinks, and I've supported you for so many years. Now that you're old and no longer attractive, who would want you besides me?"
He suddenly grabbed me and forced me down on the sofa, pinning me beneath him and fiercely gripping my chin.
"Angela, why are you treating me this way? How could you?
"How could you be so heartless! Are you taking back everything you once said?"
