Chapter 2
Freddie erupted angrily, "Now you're being petty too, huh? Money really changes people. You're just a housewife. Would you even know how to drive a sports car if I gave you one?
"I'm done talking to you. If you keep making a scene, we shouldn't stay together anymore."
Just then, his phone rang at the worst possible moment. The anger on his face disappeared instantly as he answered, "Joselyn, what's wrong?"
On the other end, Joselyn's shaky sobs came through.
"Freddie, I've been in a car accident. My stomach hurts so much, I'm really scared..."
"Alright, wait for me. I'm coming right now!" Freddie looked worried, didn't offer a word of explanation, and rushed out the door.
The next second, I received a strange message on my phone.
This was Joselyn's three-month pregnancy checkup report, with a thoughtful note attached.
She said: [This is our first child. Freddie rewarded me with a Ferrari and gifted me a private villa.]
[Angela, Freddie belongs to me tonight. You can hold that cat and celebrate your birthday alone.]
My eyes widened instantly as I stared at the pregnancy checkup report, feeling as if a sharp blade had split my heart in two. I collapsed helplessly to the floor.
Soon after, I received a message from Freddie.
He said: [Something came up at work, and I need to meet someone. I won't be home tonight, and I'm sorry for missing your birthday. I'll make it up to you with a gift at tomorrow's business dinner.]
[Don't be upset. Get some rest early.]
Looking at the messages, I smiled mournfully and bitterly.
Freddie and I were university classmates. I fell in love with him at first sight, but he always dismissed me.
He lived with his mother since childhood. Later, his mother developed severe kidney failure and was hospitalized for a long time while raising money for a transplant.
I felt sorry for him and paid all his hospital bills, and even reached out to the top doctors in the country to treat his mother.
The surgery went very smoothly.
To protect his pride, I only said the funds were raised.
He was in a difficult situation at the time, but still questioned me with impressive confidence.
"Angela, why are you doing all this?"
I eagerly opened my heart to him, "Because I like you."
He was silent for a moment, his brows furrowed. "Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
My cheeks turned red, but he saw through me. "I've already signed with an agency, and I have to play along with a fake couple storyline. We can only date in secret. Don't you feel sad? Angela, you're wonderful, but I really have nothing to offer you..."
A young girl's innocent love was fearless and unwavering, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
"As long as I can be with you, I'm willing to endure anything," I said.
"Freddie, I'll help you achieve your dreams, and I'll wait for you to fall in love with me. Can you give me a chance?"
The sun was setting and glowing softly as the young man leaned in and gently kissed the girl's cheek.
"Okay."
We started dating.
I used my family connections behind his back and provided him with all kinds of resources, helping him become the youngest winner of the Golden Saddle Award for Best Actor.
Though our feelings weren't deep in the beginning, he still respected, understood, and cared for me.
While he worked hard on his career, I stayed by his side, shielding him from drinks at countless events, stumbling and vomiting on midnight sidewalks, until a bleeding ulcer landed me in the hospital.
At the time, he held my hand and said with concern, "Angela, let's get married.
"I'm determined to succeed, and even if I can't love you, I will never hurt you."
Ten years had passed since then. We rarely saw each other, and now, he was only left with irritation toward me.
Countless hurtful words stabbed me like knives.
Joselyn's prenatal examination report was the heaviest blow, piercing my deeply wounded heart that loved him so much.
I smiled through tears and replied to him.
[Freddie, let's get a divorce.]
Early the next morning, Freddie still hadn't replied. I wondered if he hadn't even bothered to read my message.
Meanwhile, Joselyn updated her social feed again.
She tied up her long hair, revealing a slender neck, and wore a custom-made black dress.
The necklace on her neck looked very familiar to me.
Panic struck me, and I quickly opened the safe.
Sure enough, the ruby necklace my mother gave me was gone.
I instantly felt a chill all over. Only Freddie and I knew the combination to the safe.
I picked up my car keys and headed to the venue for today's party.
When I arrived, Freddie was chatting with celebrities from the entertainment industry and didn't notice me at all.
Joselyn noticed me. She walked over, proudly showing off the ruby necklace around her neck.
