Chapter 4
I suppose I'd been far too patient these past years.
That was probably why everyone thought I was hopelessly in love with Freddie—including me.
But after I finally figured it out, I was stunned to realize Freddie was just an ordinary man.
I looked up at his face and gently touched his brows and eyes.
I whispered in his ear, "Freddie, back then, I thought you were a little handsome.
"But after all these years, I'm already tired of you."
He suddenly let go of me, looking panicked and at a loss.
I hated using wet wipes to clean the places he touched, and I told him, "This was just a transaction between us, but I've had enough. The deal is over."
Before I finished speaking, Freddie interrupted me.
"You want things even between us?"
"You saved my mother, so I agreed to be with you. I've tolerated you for ten years, and now you dare to bring up divorce!"
As he spoke, he grabbed my face and threatened through gritted teeth, "Divorce? Not a chance!"
I smiled.
Freddie thought that the money I once gave his mother for medical bills was tainted.
"Freddie, when your heart is filthy, everything looks tainted."
I looked at him and continued, "I want a divorce. Joselyn is pregnant with your child, and it's already three months along. I really want to know what gives you the right to call me unclean here."
As I spole, I slapped the maternity check report onto his face.
Freddie's face turned pale instantly, and a trace of panic flashed in his eyes.
But the next moment, he questioned me harshly, "Angela! I'm your husband. How could you be so narrow-minded and actually investigate me? Don't you trust me at all?"
"You sowed your seed out there, and you still have the nerve to say this nonsense?"
I couldn't help but laugh, "I have never investigated you. This was a gift from your girlfriend."
Freddie was about to say something when Joselyn pushed the door open and entered.
She cried and said, "It's all my fault. This child shouldn't have come into the world. I'll go to the hospital and end our baby right away..."
As she spoke, she seemed to lose strength and stumbled backward.
Freddie quickly stepped forward and held Joselyn. "Angela, stop making trouble. No one wants to compete with you for the title of Mrs Wright, but this is my child..."
It was already very clear, yet Freddie kept pretending not to understand.
I turned and walked toward the door.
"We're all adults. Sign the divorce agreement soon and keep your dignity.
"You don't want your affair during the marriage to become public knowledge, do you, Mr. Movie Star?
I didn't ask for much property in the divorce agreement because accepting Freddie's charity didn't appeal to me.
I preferred to watch him lose everything he once had, step by step.
Joselyn managed to become the official partner.
Freddie agreed to divorce me.
Joselyn showed up on the day I divorced him.
She held her belly with one hand and tightly clung to Freddie with the other, afraid I'd sweet-talk him away.
When I got the divorce certificate, Joselyn clearly felt relieved.
She came over to provoke me as soon as Freddie was away.
"A washed-up woman like you is lucky to have been his wife for so many years. But… I do pity you—not even a sign of a baby after all these years of marriage.
"Angela, just remember, you look so pathetic that it disgusts me to even call you my husband's ex. Even if you can't make it anymore, don't come and bother our lives.
"Otherwise, I have a thousand ways to ruin you."
I reached out and yanked her hair, making her scream in pain.
I leaned close to her ear and whispered to Joselyn with a smile, "Joselyn, do you remember Room 8801 at the Voyager Hotel?"
She froze completely.
Her expression instantly turned panicked and flustered.
I watched her reaction with satisfaction, helped her straighten her messy hair, and continued, "Actually, I should thank you. Otherwise, my divorce wouldn't have been so easy...
"I'm not as ruthless as you. I definitely won't spill it and get your reputation tarnished.
"After all, I just want you to suffer unbearable misery."
