Chapter 6
The banquet was held at the most luxurious hotel in the city center, and all the decorations clearly cost a fortune.
Not only were tens of thousands of roses used to decorate the background and countless gift boxes piled up, but even the dress he gave her was inlaid with priceless rhinestones.
The guests who came and went were all amazed by the spectacle before them.
"They say it's hard for a rich family to produce a devoted lover. Look at how much Mr. Vane dotes on Mrs. Vane. Who wouldn't be envious?"
"That's right. The two of them are not only childhood sweethearts and well-matched in terms of social status, but they have also been in love for many years. It's really hard to find someone as well-matched as them."
Some even went so far as to fawn over Claire .
"Mrs. Vane, you are so lucky. Mr. Vane is so sincere towards you. We are so envious."
She turned to look at the person in front of her, smiled with red eyes, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.
"Yes, true sincerity is rare and precious."
Therefore, those who betray true feelings will suffer the consequences of swallowing a thousand needles and dying without a proper burial.
Perhaps it was because her expression was too serious that everyone present was taken aback. Silas and Leo, who were standing next to her, stiffened and exchanged a glance, almost thinking that she knew something.
When it came time to blow out the candles and make a wish, everyone surrounded Claire in the center, singing "Happy Birthday" and enthusiastically inviting her to make a wish.
Silas affectionately tucked her hair behind her ear, squatted down beside her, and said gently, "Make a wish, Claire."
Looking at the expectant gazes of the crowd, she closed her fingers and shut her eyes.
"My first wish is that my leg will get better soon."
"My second wish is that my life will be joyful and free in the future."
"My third wish is that from now on, the people I don't want to see will disappear from my world forever."
The audience erupted in applause, and no one noticed anything amiss, except for Silas and Leo, whose expressions changed slightly.
Because this time, none of her birthday wishes were related to them!
In previous years, her birthday wishes were nothing more than hoping for their good health and for Leo to grow up happily. This is the first time, her only wish is for herself.
Realizing something was wrong, the father and son hurriedly tried to explain to her.
"Claire, what's wrong? Are you angry because I haven't spent time with you lately? There's a very important project at the company these days, and I've been busy with work, so I've neglected you. Don't worry, I'll spend more time with you after this is over, okay?"
Leo also chimed in, "Mom, I just started kindergarten and I have a lot of homework to do, that's why I haven't been able to spend time with you."
"Please don't be angry with me and Dad, okay?"
She looked down at the father and son, whose eyes were darting around, and said nothing.
Busy?
They are very busy these days.
He was busy preparing for his wedding with Blair.
Just then, Blair arrived late.
She handed the gift to Claire and then apologized, "Miss Rhodes, I'm sorry, I've been busy preparing for our wedding with my boyfriend lately, so I'm late today. I hope you won't mind?"
Claire looked at her calmly.
"When did Miss Knight get a boyfriend? I've never heard of it before."
Blair blushed slightly. "We've been together for many years, but we haven't made it public."
Her fingers, resting on the wheelchair, tightened unconsciously. After a moment, she simply nodded: "Congratulations. When is the wedding?"
Blair smiled and replied, "A week later."
Before Claire could speak again , Silas interrupted their conversation.
"The fireworks show is about to start, Claire, shall I take you out to see the fireworks?"
