Chapter 7
Legend has it that if lovers kiss under the midnight fireworks, they will stay together forever.
Therefore, most of the couples attending the banquet had already chosen their spots to watch the fireworks. However, after she left the house, a few minutes before midnight, she suddenly couldn't find Silas anywhere.
She pushed her wheelchair in search of him, and sure enough, she saw him kissing Blair in the hotel garden.
Fireworks soared into the sky, brilliant and dazzling, making the figures of the two people exceptionally clear.
Beside them, Leo looked up at the two of them with a face full of happiness.
The family of three was enjoying a happy time together.
Claire stood quietly in a corner not far away, watching, as if her heart had been completely corroded, so she didn't even feel pain anymore .
After returning home, Claire washed up and went to bed early.
Silas drank quite a bit of wine and fell asleep even faster than her.
In the middle of the night, his phone kept ringing. Seeing that he showed no signs of waking up, Claire struggled to sit up, picked up the phone, and pressed the answer button.
The caller was Silas's assistant. Before she could even speak, he hurriedly reported the situation.
"Mr. Vane, something terrible has happened! Miss Knight has been in a car accident."
“I had someone check, and it turns out they were sent by your parents.”
"They discovered your continued connection with Miss Knight, which is why they arranged for someone to target her. She is now..."
Before she could finish speaking, Silas, who had woken up at some point, snatched the phone from her hand.
He put the phone to his ear and listened to the words on the other end. His face grew increasingly grim, as if a storm was about to break.
A moment later, he hung up the phone, pretending to be calm and reassuring Claire, even though he was extremely anxious inside.
"Claire, it's late, you should go to sleep. I have some things to take care of, so you should rest and don't wait for me."
He didn't return all night, and Leo disappeared along with him.
Claire knew that Blair had been in a car accident, and the two of them were extremely worried and must have gone to the hospital to take care of her.
However, she didn't care, as her paperwork would be completed soon.
She thought they would stay in the hospital for many days, but to her surprise, the father and son both returned that very night.
They treated her with utmost care, as if nothing had happened.
Silas offered to cook her a special dinner himself.
stayed by her side at all times , and even thoughtfully massaged her legs.
"Mom, I'll massage your legs more, that will help them heal better, right?"
She had many questions in her mind, but she couldn't ask them. She suppressed her emotions and asked casually, "I heard that Miss Knight was in a car accident. How is she now? Is she alright?"
Silas, who was serving the dishes, stiffened slightly when she mentioned Blair: "Claire, how did you know she was in a car accident?"
“I heard a bit of the phone when you answered last night, but not all of it. I just vaguely remember that she seemed to have been in a car accident.”
Silas seemed relieved and explained gently, "I didn't tell you yesterday because I was afraid you would overthink it."
"Her injuries are quite serious; the doctor said she has multiple fractures and will need to rest for a while. But don't worry about her; I've already arranged for someone from the company to take care of her at the company."
Hearing his words, Claire had a bad feeling inexplicably.
He clearly loves Blair so deeply. She is so badly injured, he should be by her side every step of the way. Why is he here to fawn over her at this time?
After the meal, Claire's heart was still in turmoil, feeling that something was wrong, but Silas didn't say anything.
Before going to bed, Silas brought her a glass of honey water and sat down beside her.
"Claire, you haven't been sleeping well lately. I made you a cup of honey water to help you sleep. Drink it."
She looked at the cup of honey water, unwilling to drink it, and tried every means to refuse. However, Silas was much stronger than her, and he half-coaxed and half-forced her to put the cup to her lips.
"Drink it quickly so you can get a good night's sleep."
Unable to resist, she could only drink the honey water.
Not long after, she suddenly felt dizzy and then lost consciousness.
