Chapter 4
Claire, who was in the darkness , was struck as if by lightning. Her eyes widened as Leo pounded her with a stick after a stick .
She bit her lip, forcing herself not to cry out, tears already streaming down her face.
It turns out that her son, whom she had loved with all her heart for many years, already knew everything.
All his obedience and submissiveness were just an act.
She cherished and protected this five-year-old child, holding him in her arms and gently comforting him when he had a fever. She stayed up all night, holding him and soothing him softly.
She held his hand as he learned to walk and taught him to speak.
Yet he hated himself so much, his small body gripping a wooden stick, he smashed it against himself with all his might.
She could hear a deafening roar, like a mountain collapsing and a tsunami crashing in her ears, and then she fainted again.
When she woke up again, she was back at the Vane family home.
Silas and Leo surrounded her, their faces full of concern and self-reproach upon seeing her wake up.
“Claire, you’re awake. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have left you alone with Leo, which led to your kidnapping.”
"Don't be afraid, the people have been caught. I will make sure they all go to jail and make you pay a hundredfold for the harm you suffered!"
With tears in her eyes, Leo brought over a bowl of medicine from the side and carefully placed it in front of her: "Mom, take your medicine. You'll get better if you take medicine."
"When Leo grows up, Leo will protect you and never let you get hurt again!"
Watching the father and son's superb acting skills, and recalling the punches and kicks, Claire's face was expressionless, only endless sorrow and despair spreading wildly.
She said nothing. Ever since her legs were crippled in the accident, and after learning about all the deceptions and the truth, she no longer wanted to say anything.
She just wanted the paperwork to be completed as soon as possible so she could return to her parents and get her legs healed.
She stopped talking, and Silas didn't notice anything unusual. He just thought she was in a bad mood because she couldn't walk, so he tried even harder to cheer her up.
During the day, she could barely keep up with his act, but at night, she would always dream that the child she had given birth to after ten months of pregnancy and severe bleeding was strangled to death by his father before she could even hold him .
She often has nightmares and then wakes up with tears streaming down her face.
She dreamed of her child more than once, but in her dreams, his face was always blurry.
Yes, she had never seen him before, so how would she know what he looked like?
She didn't even know where Silas had buried the child.
To express her condolences, she went to the temple to offer a lamp for the child's passing.
In this way, the child can be reborn in the underworld sooner and will not become a wandering ghost.
setting up the lamp for the deceased , she went behind the statue to pray for blessings. Just then, she heard what sounded like Silas's voice coming from outside the door.
He was holding an urn containing ashes, accompanied by Blair and Leo.
As the group approached the door, Blair spoke softly.
"Silas , are you really going to scatter Rhodes's child's ashes just because I've been having nightmares about him coming to take my life these past few days?"
“This is your own child. You did this for me back then… It’s understandable that he hates me.”
Leo tugged at her sleeve, her eyes full of love as she looked at her: "Mom, you're just too kind. He's already dead, yet he still keeps bothering you. Whatever Dad does is what he should do."
Silas hummed in agreement and stroked her face, "Sweetie, nothing is more important than you."
After saying that, he opened the urn with a cold expression, looking at it as if the child inside was never his own.
The next second, he slightly raised his hand and poured all the ashes directly into the sewer!
