Chapter 3
A few days later, Silas took her and Leo to a party.
The invitation to the banquet was only for the president of the Vane Group and his family, but Claire still spotted Blair in the corner.
Because she was his personal secretary, always accompanying him to various banquets, Claire never doubted the relationship between the two.
She would even personally buy a birthday gift for Silas to take to him, as a token of her gratitude for taking care of him over the years.
Looking back on all these years, her gentle and frail appearance not only made Silas feel sorry for her, but she herself couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
Looking back now, she realize how utterly pathetic she was.
Lost in thought, Silas had already pushed her to stand in front of Blair.
Their eyes met, each seemingly holding a thousand unspoken words, yet the gaze vanished in an instant.
He entrusted Claire to Blair's care, while he himself entertained others with a wine glass in hand.
After he left, Blair remained as respectful to her as ever.
"Miss Rhodes, what would you like to eat? I'll go get it for you."
Claire felt pain just looking at her, so she shook her head.
She clearly only shook her head and didn't give her a cold shoulder, but Blair looked like she had been wronged. She bowed to her and then turned and left with tears in her eyes.
Claire could react to why she was doing this, the next second, she saw her accidentally fall down in front of the giant human-shaped cake.
The cake base was very sharp, and when she hit her head on it, blood flowed instantly.
Those around gasped in shock, and Silas, who was not far away, rushed over uncontrollably upon seeing this.
No matter how well he pretends, his love can't be hidden. So when he saw Blair injured, Silas couldn't help but show his nervousness in his eyes.
He pushed Claire away forcefully as if out of control, his tone filled with coldness.
"Get out of the way!"
Claire was already in a wheelchair, and with that push, she fell off and crashed heavily to the ground.
In an instant, all the guests present were stunned. They never expected that Silas, who always doted on his wife, would resort to such a cruel act against Claire for the sake of his secretary.
It wasn't until Claire fell heavily to the ground, blood flowing down the floor and onto the soles of his leather shoes, that Silas suddenly came to his senses and hurriedly helped Claire back into her wheelchair.
"I'm sorry, Claire, I didn't mean to. I just didn't see clearly."
"Blair is injured. I'll take her to the hospital first. You and Leo can go home together, okay?"
After saying that, without waiting for her reply, he hurriedly turned around, picked up Blair, and left in a hurry.
After everyone left, only her son Leo stayed by Claire's side to comfort her.
"Mom, don't be sad. Dad didn't mean it. Aunt Blair was hurt so badly that's why he was so anxious."
"Shall I go back with you?"
She looked at Leo, who was lying at her feet, with a sorrowful expression, but she couldn't speak. She could only stroke his little face to indicate her agreement.
The two got into the car together, but the car was suddenly forced to stop halfway down the road.
Just as Claire was about to protect Leo, the car door was forcefully pulled open, and the person grabbed a sack and covered her with it, causing her to lose all sight.
She was lifted up and taken somewhere unknown. When everything around her quieted down, she was met with a barrage of punches and kicks.
"Ah……"
Claire, huddled in the sack, was in utter despair.
She didn't know how Leo was doing. She was worried about his safety while also wondering why she had been tied up here.
As a barrage of punches rained down, she finally succumbed and passed out.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she vaguely regained some consciousness. Just as she was about to struggle, she suddenly heard a familiar voice again.
"Mr. Vane, your wife was beaten so badly that she has been unconscious for several hours."
“Even if you want to avenge Miss Knight, that’s enough. I’m afraid that if we drag this out any longer, Madam’s life will be in danger…”
It turns out that her abduction was Silas's doing.
Everything was just to avenge Blair, who had faked a fall at the party.
Claire felt a sharp pain in her heart for a moment. Before she could grieve, she heard her son Leo's childish yet hateful voice.
"Not enough!"
"She deliberately hurt my mother, I want to make her wish she were dead!"
Immediately afterwards, Leo, who had been obedient and docile, picked up a wooden stick and smashed it hard against her back.
