Chapter 2
The comments continued: [I can tell from your comment that this is your first time reading this novel. Once you get further, you'll understand what's going on.]
Reading these comments, I couldn't help but feel surprised.
I wondered if there was something else going on here.
Hassan was Bradley's child. I could swear on my life that it was true.
What did that comment mean?
Before I could think it over, Bradley's voice pulled me back.
He said, "Scarlette, head home now. I'm about to have surgery and don't have time to stay with you."
Brooke was also urging me to leave.
"That's right, Scarlette. You should go. Hassan isn't home yet. If he comes back and doesn't see you, he'll cry.
"Hassan's health has always been fragile. If he cries and catches a cold, it could be very serious for him."
As she spoke, she quickly signaled Bradley with her eyes.
Bradley understood immediately and stepped forward to push me, trying to get me to leave quickly.
I broke free from his grip and gave them a strained, false smile.
"If I go back now, Hassan's life might be completely lost," I said.
Bradley looked at me in confusion. "Scarlette, what nonsense are you talking about?"
"Go back quickly. Don't make things worse here!" he shouted.
I hurried towards the other hospital bed, but Bradley reached out to stop me.
"The child next door who was supposed to provide a heart for Esteban has already passed away," he said.
Already... passed away?
Tears instantly streamed down my face. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
The comments continued.
[This is nonsense. Hassan is still alive; he's just physically weak.]
[This was the most malicious male lead I've ever read about in a novel.]
[The supporting female character is truly unfortunate. Her son is only a few feet away, yet she can't save him.]
Reading these words instantly put me at ease.
Hassan was still alive.
After collecting my thoughts, I looked up at Bradley. "Why are you stopping me?"
Bradley pretended to care for me. "The child's death was horrific. I'm afraid you'll have nightmares if you see him."
I snorted. Those words were right. Bradley really was malicious.
"I'm an adult. I'm not afraid." With that, I reached for the curtain again.
"Bradley, didn't you say it's time for the operation? Esteban can't wait any longer!"
Brooke suddenly shouted and pressed the nurse call button
"Hello? This patient needs to go to surgery—come quickly and help!"
Soon, the room was filled with nurses coming to assist
Seeing so many nurses made me even happier.
"You arrived just in time. I have something to ask," I said.
Bradley frowned immediately upon hearing me speak.
"Scarlette, go ahead!" the nurse said.
Thanks to Bradley, everyone in the department knows me.
I asked, "Is it hospital policy for patients to share a room with donors?"
The nurses exchanged looks and all shook their heads.
Bradley's face immediately darkened. He leaned in close and quietly warned me.
"Scarlette, are you trying to ruin me?"
I glanced at him but didn't respond.
"I want to report Bradley. He put the donor's body and the recipient in the same hospital room."
The moment I spoke, everyone was stunned.
They probably didn't expect me to turn him in, even though we're family.
Brooke rushed over and stood beside me. "Scarlette, whatever you plan to do, wait until my son finishes his surgery!
"If you interfere with my son's surgery, I'll call the police and have you arrested!"
Hearing Brooke's threat, I couldn't help but sneer.
"Very well. Go ahead and call the police."
"Scarlette!" Bradley scolded sternly.
"Even if you want to report me, you have to wait until Esteban's surgery is finished.
"I'm Esteban's chief surgeon—a life hangs in the balance! You can't just stand by and let someone die because of your own feelings!"
I glanced at Brooke and said, "Are you going to call the police or not? If you don't, I'll do it for you."
With that, I pulled out my phone and started dialing.
The next second, Bradley snatched my phone and smashed it hard on the ground.
Looking at the phone shattered into pieces, I felt a chill deep inside.
I'd always known that Bradley didn't love me and Hassan. He favoured Esteban.
I never expected that to perform surgery on Esteban, he could go so far.
Hassan and Esteban shared the same birthday, but each year, he always celebrated Esteban's birthday.
Hassan cried hard on his birthday this year, begging me to bring Bradley back.
I couldn't bear to see Hassan in tears, so I called Bradley.
"Honey, Hassan wants you to celebrate his birthday with him. Would you come back?"
But Bradley scolded me.
