Chapter 1
Ten hours after my son went missing, I was shaking so badly that I could barely hold my phone.
I could only beg my husband to call the police, but he just waved me off.
"He's just out playing. You're so dramatic lately—must be menopause or something."
As I panicked, trying to think of where my son could be, suddenly, strange words flashed before my eyes.
"Poor supporting female. Her son's about to lose his heart, and the male lead is still lying to her."
'What male lead? What supporting role?' I thought I was hallucinating from stress.
But just as I reached for my phone to call the police, another line appeared, and this time, it made everything crystal clear.
*****
The comment read: [The supporting woman's son is nothing more than a pawn. He only exists so the heroine's son can get a heart donation.]
I suddenly remembered that ten hours ago, my rival Brooke Olson had called to boast to me.
Her son, Esteban Olson, finally found a suitable heart donor, and the surgery was set for today.
I panicked and immediately called the police without hesitation.
The next second, my husband, Bradley Brown, hung up directly.
"What are you doing!" He frowned and scolded me impatiently.
"I told you the child was just playing. You actually want to file a false report? That's a crime.
"I have another surgery soon. Can you stop causing trouble all the time!"
Before I could respond, more text appeared.
"Did the male lead just get nervous?"
"Of course, the 'surgery' he's talking about is taking his son's heart."
"If the female supporting lead heads there now, she can still save her son."
Bradley kept rambling, but I didn't have time to argue with him.
I have to save my son.
I shoved Bradley aside and rushed toward the hospital without hesitation.
On the way, my son's sweet face kept appearing in my mind.
When I arrived at the hospital, I went straight to Esteban's ward.
I really had to thank Bradley for this.
If he hadn't insisted on bringing me to visit Esteban some time ago, I wouldn't know which ward he was in.
"Scarlette?" Brooke looked at me with a surprised expression in the ward.
She quickly pulled the curtain between the two hospital beds, a hint of guilt flashing in her eyes.
I immediately stepped forward, trying to pull open the curtain.
But she stopped me and said, "Scarlette, did you come alone?"
She anxiously looked behind me.
I ignored her, just wanting to find my son as soon as possible.
"Scarlette, are you here to congratulate me for finding a suitable living heart donor?" Esteban said weakly from the hospital bed.
He smiled on his pale face.
Hearing this, I immediately felt relieved.
He said they found a living heart, which meant my son, Hassan, was still alive.
"Is it really that easy to find a heart donor?" I stared into Brooke's eyes and questioned her loudly, word by word.
Brooke's gaze flickered, then she smiled.
"It's thanks to Bradley. He used his connections and found the most suitable heart for Esteban.
"Once Esteban's surgery is successful, I will definitely visit to express my gratitude."
Visit to express gratitude? I just found it amusing.
"My son is missing. Do you know where he went?" I asked.
Brooke was clearly taken aback and awkwardly tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Scarlette, what do you mean? How would I know where your son is if he's missing?" she said.
I raised an eyebrow at her, but she guiltily looked away, avoiding my gaze.
"Scarlette, why are you here?"
Hearing a familiar voice, I instinctively looked up and met Bradley's surprised gaze.
"Why aren't you looking for your son and came to the hospital instead?" Bradley asked, confused.
I spoke for myself. "Just now, Brooke said you helped her find a suitable heart donor. Is that true?"
Bradley unconsciously touched his nose, a gesture he only made when feeling guilty.
Whenever he lied to me in the past, he would instinctively touch his nose.
Over time, I learned about this habit of his.
He said, "Yeah... I've found it. I'm here to perform surgery on the two children."
He brushed me off, saying, "Go back quickly and wait for Hassan. Otherwise, he'll cry if he comes home and can't find his mom."
He didn't notice the flaw in his words, but I caught it clearly.
At that moment, those familiar words appeared before my eyes again.
[I think the male lead is too ruthless. That's his own son. How could he bring himself to do it?]
[Could it be that Hassan isn't actually his son?]
