Chapter 4
I spread my hands indifferently.
"Sure, go ahead," I said.
The cops retrieved the surveillance footage of the banquet and took away the glass I had used.
They even went to the hospital to have Luna's blood tested.
After a whole day of running around, they got nothing.
The cop warned Ethan seriously.
"Dr. Harrison, the surveillance footage shows that Ms. Bennett had no contact with Luna.
"There are no signs of poisoning in the blood test. It is indeed a late-stage cancer.
"Please don't waste police resources," the cop warned.
After the cops left, Ethan stared at me.
"Chloe, what the hell did you use?" he asked.
I looked at his furious expression and found it amusing.
"Ethan, you're a doctor. Don't tell me you actually believe in magic?
"Luna's got cancer. You couldn't save her, so you're blaming me?
"Guess your glory may be a false one," I mocked.
Ethan was poked in the sore spot by me, and his face was ashen.
He clenched his fists, looking ready to hit me, but eventually held himself back.
"I'll find proof, just wait," he spat.
Then he turned to leave and slammed the door.
Back in the ward, Luna just woke up from the effects of the sedative.
When she saw Ethan's defeated expression, she instantly guessed that he didn't get any benefits.
Luna knew very well that she did not have cancer at all.
She had no idea what was going on in her body.
But she knew if she ended up like this, Ethan would definitely dump her sooner or later.
She must hold on to him tightly.
Suddenly, Luna reached out and grabbed the air, looking at the ceiling with blank eyes.
"Ethan... Where are you?" she called out.
Ethan hurriedly held her hand.
"Luna, I'm here," he said.
Tears rolled down Luna's cheeks, her voice trembling.
"Ethan, why is it so dark around?
"I can't see... I can't see anything!
"Ethan, I'm scared. Am I blind?" she whimpered.
Ethan's heart sank. He quickly waved his hand in front of Luna's eyes.
Luna blinked, deliberately pretending to be unresponsive.
Ethan was heartbroken.
"Luna, don't be scared. It might be the tumor influencing your optic nerve. I'll call an eye specialist right now," he said.
As he was just about to leave and call for help, Luna suddenly let out an extremely sharp scream.
"My eyes!"
She covered her eyes with both hands, blood streaming down between her fingers.
Ethan was terrified that he forcibly moved her hands away.
Her eyes had turned completely gray.
Her pupils were lifeless and unfocused. And the optic nerves were destroyed.
The head of the ophthalmology department rushed over and checked her condition, only to shake his head helplessly.
"Dr. Harrison, her optic nerves have been completely destroyed. She's really blind, no way to recover," the doctor said.
Hearing his words, Luna was stunned.
She originally just wanted to fake blindness and seek sympathy.
Never did she expect it to come true!
She screamed in horror and struggled frantically in her hospital bed.
Ethan hugged her tightly, tears streaming down his cheeks.
He was completely devastated.
Luna was really blind.
The news spread quickly in the hospital, and all the doctors found it incredible.
Ethan fell into deep despair and anger.
He was convinced that it was all my fault.
Since the law couldn't punish me, he decided to use public opinion to ruin me.
Ethan used his status as a rising star in the medical field to post a long article on Twitter.
In his post, he portrayed himself as an affectionate doctor who was forced to break off our engagement for the sake of his terminally ill junior schoolmate.
He portrayed me as a vicious woman who poisoned and hurt a rival out of jealousy.
He also uploaded photos of Luna struggling in pain on her hospital bed, along with her official diagnosis of blindness.
As soon as the post was published, it immediately blew up online.
Ethan already had tons of fans, and with all the juicy drama about rich family grudges and a terminally ill girl, the story was extremely attractive.
The post shot straight to the top of the trending hashtags.
Countless netizens flooded my social media accounts and started a frenzy of cyberbullying against me.
[Chloe, go to hell! You're so twisted. Why don't you get cancer yourself?]
[Relying on the wealth of your family, you think you can play with people's lives? We demand a full investigation!]
[Dr. Harrison is so pitiful to be entangled by such a poisonous woman.]
My DMs were overflowing with nasty curses and creepy memorial photos.
The Bennett family's company stock was also affected and started tanking.
Diana was freaking out, begging me to find a way toput an end to the uproar.
But I wasn't panicking at all.
I put on delicate makeup, changed into a red dress, and started the live stream directly.
Instantly, hundreds of thousands of viewers flooded in.
The live chat was all cursing me.
I leaned back in my gaming chair, coffee in hand, watching the comments without a care in the world.
"Satisfied now? If not, go ahead," I said.
