Chapter 3
"Calling off the engagement in front of everyone. Do you even know how embarrassing it was?" Arthur shouted.
I looked at him coldly.
"Ethan dumped me for another woman. What should I do? Beg for him to stay?" I shot back.
Arthur slapped the table and shot to his feet.
"Luna's a patient! Ethan's a doctor. It's his duty to save lives!
"Not only did you not understand him, but you even said such vicious words!
"Go to the hospital right now to apologize to Ethan and that girl!"
I stood still, not moving an inch.
"No," I said.
Arthur was livid, pointing right at my face and cursing me out.
"If not, I'll disown you!" he shouted.
Seeing that I still stood there unmoved, Arthur suddenly dramatically grabbed his chest.
He frowned, his body teetering.
"Are you trying to piss me off?" he groaned.
"Oh, my heart's acting up again!" he said.
He collapsed onto the couch, gasping for breath.
My mom, Diana Bennett, rushed over to hold him, then turned and yelled at me.
"Luna! Will you only be satisfied if your dad ends up in the hospital out of anger?" she shouted.
Seeing Arthur's lousy performance, I couldn't help but sneer to myself.
He had had twice-yearly checkups, and his heart was in good condition.
Now, to force me to give in, he actually played this trick on me.
I walked over to the couch and looked at him.
"Heart attack, right? That's gotta hurt. Do you really want it?" I asked.
Arthur froze for a second, then screamed even louder.
"You brat! You're really going to be the death of me!" he shouted.
I nodded.
"Fine, have it your way," I said.
The moment the words left my mouth, Arthur's face turned ghostly pale like a sheet.
He suddenly widened his eyes, clutching the clothes on his chest with both hands.
His originally rosy lips instantly turned purplish black.
He opened his mouth, but couldn't get a word out. Just a gurgling sound rattled in his throat.
He rolled from the sofa to the ground, twitching all over.
Diana was stunned, nudging him twice.
"Arthur? Honey, what's wrong? Don't scare me!" she cried out.
Arthur's eyes rolled back, and he lost consciousness completely.
I took out my phone and dialed 911.
"Bennett mansion, emergency! Someone's having a heart attack. Bring a defibrillator and hurry!" I said.
Fifteen minutes later, the ambulance arrived.
The doctors rushed in and immediately started CPR.
"Heart's stopped! Get the defibrillator ready!" a doctor shouted.
Arthur's body jerked violently on the floor.
After the third time, his heartbeat finally came back. But it was still weak.
The doctors were sweating profusely as they put Arthur on a stretcher.
"Family, hurry up! His life is counting down!" one of them shouted.
Diana rushed out after them. Before she left, she looked at me with fear in her eyes.
Because she suddenly remembered that ever since I was a kid, every time I said something bad, it always happened.
Finally, the Bennett mansion fell into a heavy silence.
The servants hid in the corner and shivered, not even daring to make a sound.
I sat on the couch and poured myself a cup of coffee.
Faking it, right?
No one would walk away safe and sound in front of me.
Arthur was rushed to the ICU and spent an entire day and night fighting for his life. Finally, he barely made it.
The doctor said that the sudden blockage of his heart vessels was unbelievable.
Diana stood outside the ward, looking at me like a monster.
She never dared to ask me to apologize again.
She didn't even dare to speak to me out loud.
On another floor of the hospital, in Luna's ward.
Ethan was about to go crazy.
After the surgery failed, he could only stand by and watch Luna struggle in pain helplessly.
Painkillers were completely useless.
She had to rely on sedatives to force herself to fall asleep every day.
But as soon as the effect of the medicine expires, she will immediately wake up in pain and continue to scream.
Ethan ummaged through the medical literature at home and abroad, and made countless cross-border calls to consult top experts.
But no one could explain why Luna's condition had deteriorated so rapidly.
Just then, Ethan heard about the matter that Arthur had suddenly suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the ICU.
It made him recall what I had said during the engagement party.
"Your cancer cells have just spread throughout your body, and the pain has intensified tenfold."
Ethan's eyes were bloodshot. It seemed that he'd just caught a clue. Without another word, he rushed out of the hospital.
He stormed into the Bennett mansion with two police officers.
"Sir, that's her! She's the one who poisoned Luna!" Ethan shouted.
He pointed at me, gritting his teeth.
"Luna was totally fine before she said those things at the party. Then out of nowhere, she got sick!" Ethan said.
"Chloe must've put some new-type poison in the champagne!" he added.
The cops looked at me, asking me to cooperate with their investigation.
