Chapter 3
Selena suddenly gasped in surprise when she spotted the Moonstone in my hand, its silver light shimmering.
"Jason, Miss Lawrence's Moonstone is so beautiful. I want it," she said.
Jason glanced at it and turned to me. "Charlotte, give the Moonstone to Selena and pick another one for yourself."
I frowned and refused. "Why should I? If she wants one, she can pick her own."
Selena's eyes instantly welled up with tears. "Miss Lawrence, do you think I'm not worthy of such a beautiful Moonstone?"
Jason pulled her into his arms and stared daggers at me. "Charlotte, you can't spare her a single Moonstone? Is this how the heir of the Lawrence family should act? Give it to Selena right now!"
Jeremy's cold voice suddenly rang out from behind me. "Robbing a woman? Is this how the heir of the Stella family acts?"
When Jeremy showed up, Jason's expression twisted with rage. "Charlotte, are you blind? You brought this loser along to pick out a Moonstone?"
He had hated Jeremy ever since they were kids.
He always believed Jeremy's mom stole his dead mother's place in their father's heart, so he never gave Jeremy the time of day.
I let out a cold laugh. "You think the maid's daughter next to you is some kind of royalty?
"Jeremy is your half-brother. Other than the heir title, you and he are basically the same."
Selena's eyes welled up with tears, but she still stared at me stubbornly.
"I know I'm not good enough for Jason, but true love has nothing to do with status. You can insult me all you want, but you can't insult Jason," she said.
Jason pulled her into his arms, shooting me a deadly glare.
"Charlotte, this is your last chance. Hand the Moonstone over to Selena," he demanded.
I slipped it into my spatial ring.
"In your dreams," I snapped.
"Charlotte, you're so stingy. This is not how a Luna should behave," Jason said, glaring at me.
"That's none of your business." I grabbed Jeremy's hand and turned to leave.
When we got back to the banquet hall, I found the wedding venue I'd set up that morning was completely trashed.
Selena was acting all high and mighty, pointing at a vase with disdain.
She sneered, "It's a 17th-century piece, and you put it in the wedding venue? Miss Lawrence's taste is questionable. Is she trying to make the Stella family a laughingstock at the wedding?
"Who said weddings have to use roses? Swap them out for tulips right now. Why are the tables and chairs arranged in a circle? They should be set up in a heart shape."
Jason had his arms around her waist, looking smitten and letting her run the show.
The staff setting up the venue looked awkward.
"Stop it." I stepped forward, frowning. "Who put you in charge of my wedding? What gives you the right to boss everyone around?"
"Selena is a star student from Regalton University's event management program. She knows her stuff about venue setup. You should be thankful she's helping out," Jason said coldly, glancing at me.
Selena shot me a smug look.
I slapped her across the face.
"Charlotte, are you crazy?" Jason shouted.
He pulled her behind him, raising his hand to hit me, but stopped himself, intimidated by my family's power.
I backhanded him across the face.
He didn't dare, but I did.
"It's just a university she can buy her way into. What makes her think she can act all high and mighty in front of me?
"And don't act like you don't know how she got that 'star student' title.
"A slacker who wasted four years at university probably can't remember what her thesis was about.
"Playing the student for a few years, and she thinks she's some kind of top student?" I sneered.
Selena covered her face and glared at me, guilt in her eyes quickly giving way to pure hatred.
Jason's eyes were blazing with fury. He gritted his teeth and roared at me. "Charlotte, if you keep acting this crazy, I swear I won't show up to the wedding. I'll make you lose face in front of the entire pack."
I spread my hands. "Whatever. I couldn't care less."
It was not like I was marrying him anyway.
