Chapter 4
After I slapped Selena, I figured she'd be pissed, but I never expected she'd go as far as poisoning my food.
Jason rushed over and asked, "Selena, you okay?"
By the time he got there, Selena and I were both sprawled out on the floor.
The doctor came running in, sweating bullets. The moment he saw our symptoms, he screamed in shock, "This is Silverblossom Poison."
Jason shot me a look, hesitated for a second, then rushed over to Selena.
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and give her the antidote," he shouted.
Jason was so anxious that the veins on his neck were bulging.
The doctor wiped the sweat from his forehead and pulled a pill out of his medical kit.
"The ingredients for the Silverblossom Poison antidote are impossible to find. There's only one here, and it can only save one person," he said.
Jason froze on the spot, his face burning with rage.
"You quack," he yelled.
Selena clung to his waist, coughing up blood.
"Jason, give the antidote to Miss Lawrence. I'm a lowly servant. My life isn't worth as much as hers," she said.
I was in so much pain that my whole body was convulsing, and I couldn't get a single word out.
Jason's eyes were full of conflict, but in the end, he snatched the antidote from the doctor and gave it to Selena.
He looked at me, his face full of guilt. "Charlotte, you're the heir of the Lawrence family. Your parents will save you.
"But Selena's different. She has no one but me. You used to be so kind. You wouldn't let her die, would you?"
Before I could say anything, he called for a car and gently helped me into the seat.
"Take Miss Lawrence to the Lawrence territory," he ordered.
I curled up in the seat, feeling like there was a fire burning in my lungs.
I was pretty sure I'd be dead before I made it back home.
Just then, the doctor from earlier suddenly ran over and banged on my car window.
"Miss Lawrence, I just remembered. Silverblossom Poison is deadly, but a werewolf's first claim can cure any poison. If Mr. Stella claims you, it'll force the poison out of your body," he said.
I slammed the window shut and called Jeremy with trembling fingers.
"Get over here right now," I said.
In less than half an hour, Jeremy, who was still setting up the wedding venue, showed up in front of me.
I felt like a fish stranded on the shore, suddenly spotting my savior.
After I told him about the poison and that only he could save me, I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him.
"Jeremy, claim me," I said.
He froze for a second, then kissed me back more fiercely.
From my lips to my neck, then down to my chest, he left a trail of heated, lingering kisses.
The poison was spreading fast through my body. I was shaking uncontrollably. I slapped him hard across the face.
"Hurry up," I urged.
Jeremy sprang up, lowered his head, and sank his teeth hard into the back of my neck.
A flash of white light filled my vision. I clung to his head, our bodies tangled together until we lost ourselves in each other.
The next morning, I woke up in Jeremy's arms.
He kissed my forehead and spoke softly, "My dear fiancée, it's time for us to head to the wedding venue."
In the Wolf Pack, the bride needed to stand at the center of the stage, waiting for the groom to arrive.
I changed into my wedding dress and arrived at the venue. Jason looked relieved to see me.
"I thought you wouldn't make it to the wedding today. See? I knew your family wouldn't abandon you. Guess I made the right choice," he said.
He was still patting himself on the back for giving the antidote to Selena.
Jason reached out his hand to me.
The sight of him made my skin crawl. I ignored him and walked straight to the center of the stage.
Annoyance flickered in his eyes.
At that time, the emcee's voice rang out loud and clear. "Please welcome the groom, the heir from the Stella family."
Jason looked all smug and put-together, straightening his suit as he was about to step onto the stage.
Then the emcee called out the groom's name. "Mr. Jeremy Stella!"
Jason froze, his face draining of all color.
