Chapter 3
After I hung up, the dorm was dead silent.
The other two roommates glanced at me, then at Chloe, not even daring to breathe.
Chloe froze for a couple of seconds, then pulled out a stiff, careless smile.
She scoffed, "Go ahead, cut it off! Who are you trying to scare? Who knows if your family's crappy meds are even safe? Maybe you were just using me as a lab rat! I never wanted them anyway!
"Once my boyfriend's back, there's no medicine I can't afford!"
I put my phone away, my voice flat and emotionless.
"Fine, go ahead—just wait and see," I said.
Chloe had no idea what was waiting for her once she lost the Lane Family's special meds and had to switch to the regular steroids on the market.
Buffalo hump, moon face, ballooning up in the middle, and purple stretch marks.
Her precious beauty would crumble little by little as she puffed up, her looks decaying day by day until all that she was so proud of was completely gone.
And I was waiting for it.
Waiting to see Adrian's face when, three months from now, he finally saw the goddess from his photos—only to find her turned into a bloated, unrecognizable monster.
I couldn't wait to see that moment.
I didn't spare Chloe another glance, not even at her desperate attempt to look calm. I just turned away and started packing my things.
"Are you moving out?" one of my roommates whispered.
"Yeah," I replied, shoving a few heavy medical textbooks into my suitcase. "I need some peace and quiet."
I needed a place where no one would bother me.
Because I was finally going to carry out the plan Chloe ruined for me in my last life.
I majored in traditional medicine, specializing in metabolism and weight management.
Everyone thought it was hilarious.
Seriously? A 200-pound girl researching weight loss? That's rich.
Little did they know, this body was all by choice.
Back in my freshman year, I tweaked an old family recipe with modern pharmacology and came up with a pure herbal decoction.
It helped people shed pounds fast, with almost zero side effects.
My dad was ecstatic—he wanted to start a whole new product line at Lane Pharmaceuticals.
But the old fossils on the board just sneered at the idea.
"Some brat like you thinks she can invent something with no side effects?"
"Miss Lane, you're just a kid. Who's actually going to believe you have the chops for this?"
"If you want to prove it, go ahead—test it on yourself first!"
Their skepticism actually sparked an idea in me.
So, with my dad's silent approval and support, I kicked off my self-experimentation plan.
It took me almost two years, using a special diet and medication, to gain a hundred pounds.
In my last life, just as I was about to start a livestream to document my entire weight loss journey, Chloe dragged me off to meet Adrian.
After that, my world flipped upside down. My family was shattered, and everything I cared about was destroyed.
All the blood, sweat, and dreams I'd poured into my life—gone, reduced to nothing but dust.
This time, I'm not waiting around. I won't let history repeat itself.
I zipped up my suitcase.
The girl staring back at me in the mirror was still fat, but the fire in my eyes—dormant for two lifetimes—finally reignited.
Back in my last life, plenty of people said that when I was skinny, I had a face that could make anyone forget to breathe.
This time around, I'm reclaiming the life that should've been mine—brilliant, unstoppable—and making them pay for every single thing they owe me.
