Chapter 5
From the loneliness of her wolf, Erica could tell Thunda was meant for her. She had never been so lonely, and stolen. This evening, before the moon light gathering, she saw her father walking in the arena and she seized a moment with him.
“Can I ask you a question, father?” she asked.
And King Graham winced at her, before gesturing at her to have a seat and she did quietly. “go ahead and ask me, dear.”
“Have you ever had an encounter with Alpha Thunda, perhaps any time in the past or recently?”
Hesitating and lost in thought, king graham shrugged, “I can’t recall any. All I know alpha Thunda is the best and most ruthless alpha that was the best graduating alpha in the alpha academy. And besides he is the cutest across all packs that is all I can say about him, but as for quarrel or contention of any sort , I can’t recall.”
She snorted and lowered her gaze.
“Why do you ask?”
She curved her lips in uncertainty, “I am just asking, you know, perhaps you must have done something to him that made him save my life,” she had to twixt her statement, just to give the impression that all was smooth and well with her and Thunda.
“But he behaved rashly at the breakfast. He left furiously like one nursing animosity. He left and has never checked up on you again. Are you two quarreling?”
She winced, “Quarreling? No, we are not, just that he had a lot to do in his pack, and you know what season we are in.”
Then quietly, the king adjusted towards her and held her arms, “My daughter, something has been bothering me, and I felt to ask you the other day but you were asleep.”
“What is it, father?” she asked anxiously.
“Have you scented a mate, an alpha? Have you?” he asked and tossed his head, “You need to scent one as soon as possible so that we won’t lose this royal pack to other alphas. I want my daughter’s alpha and mate to continue my reign by the time I am gone.”
She tossed her head, and had already decided not to be quick to announce alpha Thunda as her mate. With the recent coldness of Thunda toward her, it would be foolish and unwise of her to announce him as mate.
What if he rejects me? What if he has another mate? I don’t want to be heartbroken and disappointed at the same time,” she had thought within herself.
“Father with time I will scent a mate.”
“No, we are not going to wait for time, for time is not any wolf’s fiend. Tonight, at the moon light party I will assemble some handsome, strong alphas for the proper rituals and for you to choose one as your mate. And guess what I have also invited Alpha Thunda, perhaps ypou may choose him.”
She smiled, feeling some wetness in her wolf, “Well said, father.” Her cheeks stretched with deeper smiles.
“I am glad you like it. I may die tonight? What if I perish the next seconds. Who will succeed my reign as the alpha king, and you know it is forbidden for any omega to be king. That is why you need an alpha and mate as soon as possible.’
He stood up and left.
Erica fondled with her palms and fell back in thought about Thunda.
“I wish he would turn up,” she whispered as she peered through the window to see some of the alphas already arriving in their carriages.
In their royal pack, the ritual of choosing a mate involved the omega taking a personal check of the masculine make-up of the alphas. The cost of an alpha becoming the omegas’ groom was his protective instinct and his strength in bed.
The hour came swiftly and she burned in her loss when she didn’t see Alpha Thunda in the queue of nine alphas that stood before her. With the entire pack staring and the king smiling at her, she was compelled to take a personal look at the broad shoulders, chests, six packs, hands and dick of the alphas.
She couldn’t continue with the ritual but she had already determined what her decision would be.
She took a quick glance at the alphas, daring to stroke the dicks of a few of them, tossing her head in disappointment.
Done with her check, she turned to her father. “None of them is chosen, father!”
“What!” King graham beamed and rose from his throne.
“You heard me right father. I suggest you put a pause to these rituals for now. When I scent a mate, I will announce it.”
The packs began to murmur and King Graham was lost in thought and feeling. He ordered the alphas to return to their packs and he furiously dispersed the entire packs and put an end to the party.
Later he barged in on Erica.
“There is no way you will tell me none of those alphas suit your taste. What do you want for a mate?”
“Leave that to me, dad, soon I will give you answers. And besides it is my choice to go for the best alpha because I will live with him not you.”
“I pray the moon goddess you make hey while the sun shines, because you are not getting any younger.”
