Chapter 5
Emily watched Andrew and Olivia walk away, her mind drifting back to the first snowfall when she was eighteen.
Andrew had written "Andrew loves Emily" on the snowy ground.
She smiled and asked him, "How long will you love me?"
He cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted, "Andrew will love Emily forever. Forever!"
Emily slid down the cold wall, tears and blood streaming down her face.
She smiled and muttered, "Andrew, you liar! You broke my heart..."
As Emily's consciousness faded, she suddenly heard a startled cry.
She turned and came face-to-face with Andrew's mother, Vivian Foster, who looked utterly panicked.
The thermos in Vivian's hand dropped to the floor as she rushed over to Emily. "Emily, why are you here all by yourself? How did you get so badly hurt? Where's Andrew?"
She hurriedly pulled out her phone, about to call Andrew.
Emily gripped her hand tightly, stopping her. "Vivian, please take me to the hospital first."
Vivian's face shifted with worry, and she quickly helped Emily up, hurriedly instructing the driver to head for the hospital.
Emily was in a daze the whole way, and she passed out not long after they arrived at the hospital.
She was woken up by a loud commotion from the room next door.
The noise sounded familiar. It sounded like Vivian.
Emily got up, her head still spinning, and walked over to the next room.
There were already a bunch of people gathered outside the room, whispering and pointing.
Inside, Vivian was fuming, her face flushed with anger. "I should've known. Emily fainted at the door all by herself, and you weren't home. So you were here with this bitch!"
She turned to the bodyguards, her face cold and sharp. "What are you waiting for? If she wants to throw herself at people, let her go all the way!
"Isn't she obsessed with being a homewrecker and crawling into other people's beds? Go on, strip her right here!"
Across from Vivian, Andrew was shielding Olivia behind him.
When Andrew heard Vivian's words, his face darkened. "Mom, are you out of your mind? Did Emily make you do this?
"As women, if you treat her like this, how is she supposed to face anyone again?"
Vivian shook with rage. "What does this have to do with Emily? If you're so afraid of being disgraced, maybe you shouldn't act like you have no self-respect."
She shot a look at the bodyguards. "Do it!"
The bodyguards rushed forward, but before they could touch Olivia, Andrew sent them flying with a powerful kick.
Andrew planted himself firmly in front of Olivia, making it clear he would let nothing get past him. "Mom, as long as I'm here, no one is going to hurt her!"
Vivian pointed at him, so furious that she couldn't get a full sentence out. "You...you!"
Without warning, Vivian snatched up her purse and hurled it at Andrew. "I'm going to tear her apart. Let's see who you care about. Her or your own mother!"
She kept hitting him, the zipper on her purse scratching Andrew's forehead and leaving streaks of blood behind.
Olivia, who had been standing behind Andrew, suddenly rushed out from behind him.
She stepped in front of Andrew and reached for Mrs. Fu's hand. "Please, Vivian, stop! I'm begging you. Don't hit him anymore.
"It's all my fault. Take it out on me. Leave Andrew alone!"
Andrew had been unfazed by the blows, but now his face instantly changed.
He hurriedly reached for Olivia. "What are you doing? Get behind me."
Olivia shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her hand hovered uncertainly over Andrew's wounded forehead, wanting to comfort him but too afraid to make it worse.
She looked so devastated that it seemed like she might collapse from heartbreak at any moment. "It hurts so much. I can't take seeing you like this."
"You bitch!" Vivian finally lost it and slapped Olivia hard across the face.
Andrew saw what was happening and immediately pulled Olivia into his arms.
Vivian's hand came down hard on his back, the sound muffled but heavy. But Andrew didn't make a sound. He held Olivia more tightly, refusing to let go.
