Chapter 3
The moment I said that, Grace froze. She stared at me in disbelief.
Across from me, Lucas, so high and mighty, changed his expression too. First, disbelief flashed in his eyes. Then his gaze turned cold and disgusted.
He said, "Jocelyn, are you sure you want to sign the divorce papers? Let me tell you, once you sign this, there's no going back. Even if you're pregnant, I won't give you another chance."
His expression and tone disgusted me to no end.
I couldn't understand why I had been so stupid as to fall for such a disgusting man. So what if he was handsome?
I didn't want to waste any energy on him. I took the pen from the bald lawyer's hand and signed the divorce papers right there.
Lucas left in a rage with the bald lawyer, taking my signed divorce papers with him.
My head was killing me, so I lay back down to rest.
Grace tucked my blanket in, looking worried. "Joy, are you letting your anger get to you?
"Even though I hated watching you grovel after him with no dignity, you don't have to act out of spite like this."
"You're still pregnant. If Lucas really divorces you, what will you do? You love him so much..."
I cut her off. "Grace, I don't love that man. He's good-looking, sure. But the way he acted just now? I hated it. I can't even explain how much it disgusts me."
"Are you running a fever?" She reached out and touched my forehead.
I shook my head. "I'm not running a fever. I think I forgot some things. About that Lucas guy. I don't remember him. Not a single thing."
When Grace heard that, she called a doctor right away.
The doctor said I had a blood clot in my brain. That might be why I forgot some things.
But I didn't forget anyone else, only Lucas. Even the doctor found it unbelievable.
He recommended I get some rest and see how things turned out. I took his advice and stayed in the hospital a few more days.

During that time, my so-called husband Lucas didn't show up once.
But I kept getting messages on my phone from some account.
They were all pictures. Everyday moments of Lucas and a woman who looked sweet and demure.
He peeled fruit for her, made her food, put medicine on her, and let her lean on his shoulder.
I looked at those pointless pictures and felt nothing.
I didn't remember that woman, but from everything Grace had told me, I figured it out. She was Renee, the childhood sweetheart Lucas protected and doted on.
If he loved her that much, why didn't he just marry her? Why did he settle for me?
Whatever happened between me and Lucas was in the past. What mattered was the present. I had already signed the divorce papers.
After the waiting period, Lucas and I would go our separate ways.
I didn't need to think about a man who meant nothing to me anymore.
The only thing was, I had a baby inside me. I decided to end my pregnancy.
Grace stopped me. She said the choices I was making while I had lost my memory might not be what I really wanted.
She told me to think it over. I honestly didn't care either way, but she refused to let me go through with it.
We made a deal. If I still felt the same way after the waiting period, she would go with me to the OB-GYN.
On the day I was discharged, Grace and I ran into Lucas and Renee at the hospital entrance.
