Chapter 2
Blake looked at Serena from the sidelines, a hint of awkwardness and panic flickering in his eyes. He'd never seen Serena like this before, as if she had known something.
Serena's smile faded a bit, and she asked calmly, "Didn't you say you don't know how to cook?"
The oil in the pan was still sizzling, working its magic on the steak and cooking it to perfection.
Blake felt guilty for a moment. His long lashes dropped, trembling as he looked down, partially covering the small mole beneath his eye.
It seemed that he was hinting at something.
He was good at playing the weak card. Knowing Serena liked his looks, he never minded using his charm to keep her hooked.
His usual tricks worked every time.
But Serena wasn't buying it this time.
Before Serena could ask, Chloe was already getting restless.
She got up from the loveseat and stared at Serena.
She demanded, "Who are you?"
Serena's gaze turned mocking as she stared at Chloe boldly.
Blake, from the side, hurriedly came over, stepping in front of Chloe with that disgustingly practiced heroic act.
He frowned with a hint of impatience.
"Serena, don't make trouble. It's just a piece of steak. I'll give you this piece in the pan, okay?" he said.
He sounded like he was just throwing a bone to a pesky dog, hoping it would back off.
Serena's stomach twisted with pain, and cold sweat beaded on her forehead.
She didn't have the energy to argue with them. She just walked past them, taking a seat at the dining table.
Blake turned around with a cold face. He flipped the steak, then carelessly picked it up and threw it on the plate.
Serena clutched her stomach, waiting until Blake placed a burnt steak in front of her.
It was completely different from the one Chloe had gotten.
Chloe's steak was presented with care, carefully cut into small pieces.
What about Serena's steak?
It was just a big, burnt chunk, looking totally unappetizing on that white plate.
She paused, then got up, took a knife and fork, cutting and eating.
The moment Serena ate, the terrible taste made her frown, but her stomach was so empty that it kept cramping.
Still, she kept swallowing it piece by piece.
Seeing this, Blake was furious. He snatched the plate of steak and poured it into the trash can.
He glanced at Serena unhappily.
He said, "I said I couldn't cook. If you don't want it, I can order takeout for you. Why put yourself through this?
"Stop playing the victim. Such a trick is not suitable for you."
Serena lowered her head and opened her bag.
She finally said, "Maybe Blake never told you, but I'm his girlfriend. We've been dating for three years."
As she spoke, she took out the test report from her bag.
Chloe suddenly turned to look at Blake with a look of disbelief.
Blake's face instantly turned pale.
Serena was not the kind of person who flaunted their relationship or claimed ownership, but now she blurted it out.
Caught off guard and annoyed, Blake was visibly flustered.
Chloe called out, "Blake..."
She was so focused on Blake that she didn't even notice the pregnancy test report on the table. But Blake definitely saw it.
His mind went blank. He grabbed the report instinctively, crushed it into a ball, and clutched it tightly in the palm of his hand.
Although Serena had expected it, she still couldn't keep calm after seeing Blake's reaction with her own eyes.
She instinctively reached out and stroked her stomach, and Blake's pupils contracted in alarm.
Thinking she was about to tell Chloe about her pregnancy, he roughly grabbed her wrist, immediately pulled her to her feet, and dragged her into the bedroom.
Blake was frantic, completely at a loss. He was unable to accept that he was about to have a baby.
He felt like he didn't even need to play the role of a husband with Serena, but suddenly, he was about to become a father.
He snapped, "This is very troublesome, Serena!"
When he was furious, his black earrings swung wildly.
Serena observed Blake closely for the first time.
And the only thing she saw was crystal clear, which was that Blake didn't want the baby, and as hell didn't want to marry her.
The first thing out of his mouth was to claim the baby was a trouble, like it was just another small thing for Serena to deal with, same as always.
Serena shot back, "So you think the baby and I are just a hassle to you, but all of Chloe's mess is fine? Right?"
Blake replied, "That's different! Didn't I tell you that she is very pitiful? She is married to someone she doesn't love, and a family that bleeds her dry!
"You're luckier than her, so why can't you cut her some slack?"
Blake stared at Serena with nothing but disappointment, and she caught every bit of it.
Blake continued, frustrated, "Serena, when did you get so jealous and sensitive? You weren't like this before."
Serena's face, already drained of color, somehow turned paler.
Blake suddenly softened. He walked forward and hugged her in his arms.
He whispered, trying to calm her down, "Serena, just hang in there for me, okay? I swear. When I finish dealing with Chloe, we will get married."
