Chapter 5
"What?" Ethan's sanity snapped completely. He rushed at Julia without a second thought. The two bodyguards moved to stop him, but a pale, slender hand beat them to it.
Julia grabbed Ethan's wrist in a tight grip. A light breeze lifted her hair, and her delicate face wore a terrifyingly cold expression.
"What are you—" Ethan stared at her in horror. Before he could finish, his gaze was drawn to a small pink scar on Julia's forearm.
A jolt of shock ran through him. He remembered the fat woman he'd met years ago had the exact same scar.
But he had no time to think. A sharp, searing pain erupted from his wrist, and Ethan let out a string of screams.
Julia glared at him fiercely, recalling all the humiliation she'd endured, and tightened her grip even more.
Sherly was stunned—she'd never imagined Julia was so strong.
At that moment, the surrounding guests suddenly fell silent. Some who were dining stopped and looked over. Not because of the commotion, but because they'd spotted Lucas standing not far away.
He'd changed out of his wedding attire, now wearing a black shirt with one collar button casually undone, looking faintly seductive.
His narrow, deep eyes were as sharp as an eagle's. Just standing there, he exuded the aura of a king in control.
This was Mordyn's most distinguished man—and the one everyone feared most.
Julia and the others hadn't noticed the change in atmosphere; the farce continued.
"Mrs. Glenn, you may twist his hand," one bodyguard said, seeing Julia's intent and lowering his voice to warn her.
At that, Julia sneered, then suddenly lifted her foot and kicked Ethan squarely in the crotch.
Bianca didn't have time to stop her. Ethan crumpled to the ground with a thud.
Having vented her anger, Julia looked down at them coldly and said, "Get out."
"You, you..." Ethan's eyes bulged with rage. He tried to speak, but the pain from below left him unable to utter a word.
His face turned bright red with embarrassment under everyone's strange stares, and he wished he could crawl into a hole.
Bianca helped him stand up. Through gritted teeth, he managed to snarl, "You wait and see."
Then he stared fixedly at Julia's arm, his eyes darkening.
"What's going on here?" A stern, elderly voice cut through the crowd. Butler Robert approached with a serious expression. Only then did they realize Lucas had been silently watching the whole time.
"Mrs. Glenn," Robert nodded respectfully. "Are you alright?"
"Mrs. Glenn?" Ethan froze, then suddenly turned to Julia. "How could she be Lucas' wife?"
Robert replied sharply, "Sir, today is the Glenn family's wedding day. This is Mrs. Glenn. By causing such unrestrained trouble, are you openly disrespecting the Glenn family?"
Robert's severe scolding sent shivers down everyone's spines.
The Glenn family held absolute power in Mordyn—no one dared to slight them. Ethan's fevered mind cooled instantly.
He looked at Julia, unable to believe she'd truly married Lucas, then felt a surge of regret for his earlier rudeness. Yet the scar on Julia's arm kept flashing in his mind.
He swallowed hard, realizing he was truly doomed. But remembering the "favor" of giving the Glenn family their children, he mustered up the courage to rush to Lucas.
"Lucas, this woman attacked me," Ethan pleaded. "You have to do me justice."
He hunched over, putting on a pitiful act. Next to the tall, upright Lucas, he looked like an ant about to be crushed.
Lucas glanced down at him, his eyes cold and indifferent—as if his icy gaze could freeze Ethan solid.
