Chapter 6
When Felicia met Wally's gaze, rage exploded inside her.
"Wally!" Felicia yelled.
She tried to rush over, but the cops stopped her. "I just got here. I didn't hit anyone.
"It was Emma who did it. Are you seriously blaming me for this as well?
"Let me go. I didn't hit anyone. That footage is totally fake. Emma was the one who hit them!"
Emma was hiding behind Wally, looking all pitiful. "It wasn't me. Felicia made me drive to frame me.
"I don't even have a license. How could I drive?
"Ask the driver. He saw everything. He knows Felicia wasn't just getting here."
The driver nodded right then.
Felicia looked at all of them and suddenly gave a mocking smile.
She realized what was going on.
So the call the driver answered was from Wally.
This was all a setup against her.
It was all to shield Emma.
Wally stepped up to her, his voice gentle. "Felicia, don't make things harder for the cops.
"Cooperate with the investigation for now. I'll take care of things on the outside."
Felicia slapped Wally hard across the face.
"I'm not taking the blame. It wasn't me!" Felicia shouted.
Wally rubbed his stinging cheek. "There's video. There's evidence. Fighting back won't change anything, Felicia.
"Cooperate and don't make things worse. I'll come get you in a couple of days."
Emma said with a smug grin, "Yeah, Felicia, you better behave yourself. I heard people in jail aren't exactly friendly.
"Hope you don't get bullied in there."
The cops pressed down on her shoulders and forced her into the car, ignoring her struggles.
That night, Wally showed up.
"Felicia, I've taken care of everything inside. Don't worry, you'll be fine," Wally said gently.
He was completely different from the cold person he'd been earlier.
Felicia looked up at him, her eyes empty of emotion. "And then what?"
Seeing her like this, Wally let out a soft sigh. "I know you're angry right now, but I really had no choice.
"Emma doesn't even have a license. She's recovered from her illness and is still taking her driving test.
"If she admits to this, her record will be ruined forever. She'd never be able to do what she wants with her life.
"But you're different. You've got me. Even if you never work a day in your life, I'll support you.
"That's why I had to make you take the blame. Don't worry, you'll be out in two days."
Felicia found his words amusing.
She couldn't help but let out a laugh at that.
"Wally, isn't what you're saying laughable? What makes you think I'd ever spend my whole life with you?" Felicia shot back.
Wally's face darkened as soon as he heard that. "Felicia, stop making a scene.
"Emma helped us, after all. Once we pay her back, everything will be like before."
"Before?" Felicia leaned back in her chair, her gaze cool and distant. "There's no 'before' left. That's long gone."
All those endless lies, the discarded wedding photos, and the shattered keepsakes could not be fixed.
"Alright, be good and cooperate. I'll come get you in a couple of days," Wally said, standing up.
He clearly didn't want to hear any more from her. Before leaving, he gave her one last look. "Felicia, everything I'm doing is for us."
Those next two days were hell for Felicia.
The cops kept grilling her, never letting up.
Even during meals, people kept harassing her.
Her bed was soaked every night, sometimes with a dead rat tossed on it. In the showers, someone would yank her hair and drag her to the ground.
Even while she was asleep, someone would rip her clothes off and drag her out into the hallway, her skin scraped and bloodied by the rough concrete.
"Help. Let me go!" Felicia cried out.
She kept screaming for help, breaking down over and over, until the guards finally came to pull her out.
One of the guards grumbled impatiently, "How many times is this now? Next time, we're not coming to help you in the middle of the night.
"You made enemies here, and you still won't learn to keep your head down."
Felicia trembled, clutching her flimsy clothes.
Blood dripped from her arm onto the floor, and from outside her cell, she could hear people laughing at her.
One of them sneered, "Look at her. What a joke. She really thinks she's some kind of rich girl, expecting special treatment.
"Bet she never thought this would be the kind of attention she'd get."
"We're all criminals here. What's she acting like she's better than everyone else for?" someone else scoffed.
"Still won't admit she's guilty. Guess she hasn't been beaten enough yet," another one jeered.
Felicia listened to all that, quietly staring at the calendar on the wall.
One more day, and she could leave this place.
