Chapter 7
On the day Felicia was released from prison, Wally came to pick her up.
She stayed quiet the entire ride.
No matter what Wally said, she replied with a soft, indifferent nod.
Then, the car suddenly stopped.
"Felicia," Wally called her name.
She lifted her gaze, meeting his intense, dark eyes. He said, "I have a business trip today.
"Tomorrow, I'll have the driver take you for your follow-up check."
She suddenly blurted out, "Wally, why did you date me back then?"
Wally paused for a moment, caught off guard.
He replied, "Because I loved you."
"Do you really love me? Did you ever mean it? Have you ever told me the truth?" Felicia shot back.
Their eyes met, locked in silence.
Wally stared into her eyes that used to sparkle with laughter and affection, now so calm it unsettled him.
"Of course I love you. Once I'm back from my trip, I'll stay by your side. We'll have everything, even kids again."
Felicia said, "No, we won't."
Then, Wally's phone rang.
Emma's voice was shaky, almost crying. "Wally, the whole house is covered in white paper, and someone's burning it.
"Is Felicia trying to curse me or something?
"And there's this plaque with no name on it. What is that even for?"
Wally's face turned cold, but his voice stayed gentle. "Don't be scared. I'll send someone to clean it up."
"That's the memorial plaque for our child," Felicia said quietly.
Hearing that, Felicia suddenly remembered.
Back in the hospital, when she was heartbroken, a nurse had told her, "If you honor your child, maybe one day they'll return to you."
So she arranged for everything to be set up.
Even if her child would never come back to her, she hoped they could rest peacefully in heaven.
Wally sounded impatient. "You scared Emma. Didn't I tell you not to come back yet?
"Did you do all this on purpose? What are you trying to do?
"You know she can't handle any shocks right now. She's not doing well. Couldn't you hold back for her sake?"
Felicia didn't have the energy to argue with him. All she wanted was to go back and pay her respects to her child.
Today marked the seventh day since he was gone. After that, she could finally move on and leave.
"You clearly haven't reflected enough. Take some time to think about what you've done. Get out!" Wally snapped.
Outside, the rain was pouring down in torrents.
Wally dumped her out of the car, leaving her stranded as the rain washed over her face.
Felicia pulled out her phone, hoping to call a cab, but there wasn't a single car in sight.
By the time Felicia finally made it to the villa, the demolition crew was already tearing the place apart.
"Move!" Felicia shouted.
She tried to push forward, but one of the workers blocked her. "Are you nuts? Can't you see we're tearing this place down?"
"My child's ashes are still inside. I need to get them. Stop right now!" Felicia cried, her voice cracking.
Her baby was gone before he could even see the world. Now, his ashes were about to be tossed aside like nothing.
She broke down, desperate to get inside.
"The owner said this house is bad luck. He doesn't want it anymore and told us to tear it down as fast as we can," one of the workers replied.
The rain kept pouring down.
Felicia ignored the workers and forced her way inside, only to find the place already in ruins.
When she finally saw the small urn that once held her child's ashes, it was already broken among the debris.
At that moment, she couldn't stop breathing in the dust, her lungs burning as she gasped for air.
Felicia stumbled, hugging the broken urn tight, trying to escape, when she heard the workers talking.
One of them shouted, "Boss, that woman ran in. Looks like she's having an asthma attack. Should we pull her out?
"Just bury her with everything else? Alright."
Felicia's heart clenched. Covering her nose, she rushed forward as quickly as she could.
Suddenly, the bulldozer barreled toward her.
The next moment, Felicia collapsed to the ground, her breathing growing more and more labored.
As the bulldozer's shovel was about to slam down on her, a fierce shout cut through the chaos.
"How dare you hurt her!"
