Chapter 2
After tying the last knot, Evan straightened up and towered over me, glaring down. "If you don't want to die horribly, you'd better do as you're told."
After giving me that warning, he grabbed my phone and tablet and left the bedroom without a backward glance.
As I watched his cold, indifferent back disappear behind the door, I couldn't hold back my grief any longer and wept, stifling my sobs.
Maybe the Evan who once loved me was never coming back.
Evan grew up with nothing, but he was always good-hearted and upbeat, an orphan who never lost hope.
The villainess was a twisted psycho, her soul warped from a loveless childhood that left her craving affection in all the wrong ways.
When she started college, the villainess instantly set her sights on Evan. He was bright, charming, and had a unique aura that made him stand out from the crowd.
The villainess, who never learned how to love, demanded in a commanding tone that he be her boyfriend.
Evan flat-out said no.
So her twisted feelings turned to hate, and she started using her family's money to threaten and tempt Evan into giving in.
Evan followed her against his will, but he never missed a chance to show that he wasn't happy about this matter.
To "tame" Evan, the villainess pulled out all the stops to torment him, leaving him totally broken, body and soul.
Just when Evan was about to give up on life, the heroine walked into his world. She gave him warmth and the courage to keep living, and became his one untouchable weakness.
When the villainess realized Evan had feelings for the heroine, she started holding a grudge and kept messing with her every chance she got.
That was when Evan finally turned dark.
He deliberately sucked up to the villainess, all while plotting to bring down her family's company. In the end, he locked her away in a dark, windowless basement, cutting her off from the outside world for good.
Everything she'd done to him, he paid back with interest, making her suffer even more than she ever made him.
The villainess spent years trapped in misery, struggling in agony, until she finally found a way to end her own torment for good.
Nine years ago, I suddenly transmigrated into the villainess's body, right at the moment she was ordering Evan to be her boyfriend.
Terrified I'd end up dead, I jumped into damage control mode.
Things like apologizing and making it up to him immediately, asking how he was doing day after day, paying for him to finish college, and even pouring every last cent of his savings into the guy's startup
At first, all I wanted was to make amends and try to win him over, but I never expected my efforts would actually end up winning his heart.
When I was reading the novel, I was always drawn to Evan—the handsome, strong, and tragic villain. So when he finally confessed to me, after a lot of hesitation, I agreed.
If I'd known he was going to time-travel, I definitely would've kept my distance from him.
Too bad, there's no 'what if' in real life.
I knew the villainess in the original story was terrible, but I'm not her and I never did any of those horrible things. It wasn't fair.
And thinking about how Evan, who used to see me as his whole world and treat me like I was his treasure, was gone for good, it made my heart ache even more.
I cried for ages, until I finally fell asleep in a daze.
I had no idea how long I'd been out when I suddenly woke up with a start, only to meet the villain Evan's gloomy, stone-cold face staring right at me.
Instinctively, I tried to sit up. I struggled a few times but couldn't sit up, so I instinctively backed away, stammering, "W-What do you want?"
Evan stared at me in silence for a few seconds, then suddenly lunged for my neck...
