Chapter 3
"Didn't you want me to give you a quick death? Tell me, how do you want to go?"
His face was cold as ice, and I realized he wasn't joking around.
That was exactly what I wanted, so why would I say no?
Thinking I was about to die, I couldn't help but throw in a snarky comment. "How about letting me die feeling good?"
Evan was momentarily stunned, not expecting that at all. He obviously didn't think I'd be so shameless.
His hand tightened around my neck, teeth clenched as he growled, "Emily, you really don't learn until you're staring death in the face."
I instantly regretted it and struggled to apologize. "I... I'm sorry! I won't... be snarky again. Just give me... some sleeping pills... and that's enough."
Just as I was about to meet my maker, Evan eased up a bit, then dug his fingers into my chin, holding me in place. "You think you can die easy? Dream on."
I knew he'd never let me off that easy.
The more he hated someone, the more he'd make sure they suffered.
Just like the villainess in the original story.
Looking at his face, so familiar, yet so strange and I couldn't help but miss the Evan who once loved me.
My eyes burned, and tears fell instantly. The tears slid down my cheeks and accidentally slipped right into his palm.
Evan snatched his hand back like he'd touched something dirty, then stormed out without saying a word.
Seeing that, I didn't have time to feel sad. I quickly called out, "Hey! Don't leave yet."
Evan didn't even pause.
I was desperate. "I really need to pee. I have to go to the bathroom."
Evan paused for a second, but then kept walking.
I'd been holding it all night and was about to lose control, so screw it, I yelled, "If you leave, don't blame me if I pee the bed."
Honestly, I wasn't sure if my threat would work on him, since he'd never sleep in this bed again anyway.
Evan stopped this time, but didn't turn around, like he was stewing over something.
After a few seconds, he finally turned, his face darkened, and came at me like he was ready to rip me apart right then and there.
He scared the urge to pee right out of me, and I shrank back in fear. "Sorry, I don't need to go anymore. You can leave now."
Evan clamped my chin in his hand, warning me, "Behave yourself."
I nodded over and over. "I'll be good. Don't kill me."
Evan didn't say a word, let out a cold snort, and untied my wrists with rough hands.
Then he got up and stormed out, not even giving me so much as a backward glance.
Even though I knew I wasn't the precious one he used to be crazy about, it still hurt a little.
It felt like Evan had completely forgotten about me.
For two whole days, not only did he not come to see me, but nobody brought me anything to eat or drink either.
I was barely hanging on with three bottles of water and two chocolate bars.
Just when I was about to pass out from hunger, the door finally swung open.
It was Evan.
And it was the Evan who loved me, the one who truly cared.
"Emily!" he called out.
Tears burst from my eyes as I forced my weak body to sit up, barely holding myself together.
"Evan!" I called out.
Evan pulled me into a tight hug, his voice urgent. "Emily, you can't stay here. I've already booked your flight. I'll get someone to escort you out right now."
My mind was spinning with questions.
Hadn't Evan come back to his old self?
Why was he still insisting on sending me away?
Evan kissed my forehead, gritting his teeth. "He's stronger than me. Right now, I only have control over this body for a little while. I have no idea how much longer I can hold on. You need to leave me as soon as possible."
I was stunned for a moment before I realized what he meant.
"Wait... you two aren't actually the same soul?" I blurted out.
Evan hurriedly explained as he helped me slip on my shoes, "He and I are two totally different minds. He's most likely from a parallel universe."
Evan looked like he was in agony. "His will is way too strong and I can't push him out."
I was totally floored.
So they really were two separate personalities. No wonder the villainous Evan didn't care about me at all.
When the villainous Evan mentioned I'd been reincarnated, I instinctively assumed he had been too. Even though I was afraid of him, deep down, I still saw him as the Evan I loved.
Even if he hated me, we'd spent five whole years together after all.
And during those five years, his feelings for me were genuine.
So I figured his attitude toward me was a complicated mix of love and hate, and he wasn't likely to truly hurt me.
I never realized that he and Evan were actually two completely separate minds.
To the villain Evan, there was nothing but the purest hatred and disgust for me, no love at all.
Evan cupped my face, trying to comfort me. "It's okay. He's already locked in a fight with Jason Reed. He won't have the energy to come after you overseas. As long as you never come back, he can't hurt you."
Jason was the official male lead of the novel, the one destined to be with the heroine.
I nodded blankly. "Okay."
