Chapter 2
They said my parents and Keira would not let me go and that Oscar had always loved me and was waiting for me to slap him.
So Oscar wasn't a jerk. He was a total psycho.
No matter what, I had died once. It was too late to talk about love now.
Unless he turned into a walking gold mine, I would never want him.
And I couldn't slap him. That would only make him happy.
What was even more unbelievable was the last comment. Ivan loved me.
I turned around and saw Ivan standing in the front row of the guests.
He stood with one hand casually tucked into the pocket of his dark gray suit pants, his classic three-piece suit showing off his tall, lean build.
His features were chiseled and icy, his brow slightly furrowed. As usual, he radiated that cold, untouchable aura.
Honestly, he was way hotter than Oscar.
But I had only interacted with him a handful of times in the year I was in the Pacheco family. How could he possibly have feelings for his nephew's fiancée?
Besides, everyone knew he didn't like women. Otherwise, he wouldn't still be single at 32.
Were these comments a side effect of traveling back?
Or was it a hallucination from having just come back?
A red comment popped up: [Don't be scared, Jenna. We ship you and Oscar. We paid for membership to talk to you like this.
[We almost cried our eyes out watching you and Oscar torture each other and miss each other for a lifetime.
[We did not expect there would be a chance to start over. Go for it, Jenna. This time, make sure you and Oscar get your happy ending.]
A golden comment popped up: [Jenna, we are your fans with Ivan. Don't go back to what's already let you down.
[Mature guys have way more charm. Oscar never knew how to cherish you. It's time for you to make a fresh choice this time.
[Ivan won't be as childish as Oscar. Just smile at him, and he will clear all obstacles for you silently. Your evil parents are nothing in front of him.]
It turned out that my whole life was a plot in some novel. No wonder it was so dramatic.
Then what they said must be true, just from different perspectives.
At this moment, Maurice, Oscar's father, walked up to me and whispered. "Jenna, how about this? I'll give you a payout.
"You go back to your parents, and your sister stays with the Pacheco family. We'll make sure she's well taken care of."
This was my original goal. But since my evil family would not let me go, I had to make them pay.
I kept my head down, putting on my usual timid act, my voice barely audible over the guests' gossip.
But mid-sentence, the whole room went dead silent, everyone stunned by what I said.
I said, "If you're not going to treat her badly, then don't treat me badly either. I'm the official wife of Oscar. The wedding was live-streamed for everyone to see.
"You can't just throw money at me and expect me to walk away. Maybe you don't care about your reputation, but I do."
Maurice's face stiffened. He clearly didn't expect me to push back like that. "Then what do you want?"
Oscar, meanwhile, chuckled and strolled over. "If you want to be my wife that badly, then I guess I'll—"
I walked past him and went straight to Ivan. "Since he is with my sister now, I'll marry Ivan."
Everyone froze. Even the comments stopped moving.
Ten seconds later, the comments went wild, and the room erupted with chatter.
"Wait, you can swap who you marry like that?" someone asked.
"What else can they do? They already slept together. It's not ancient times. You can't have two wives for one man," another said.
"Twin sisters, one marries the nephew and the other marries the uncle. Doesn't that mess up the family tree?" a third guest asked.
"Don't stress about it. Ivan's not into women. There's no way he'd ever agree. Just wait, Jenna will still have to take the money and leave," someone else replied.
A red comment popped up: [No, that's not it. Nothing happened between them. The second your sister walked in, Oscar realized she wasn't you. He didn't even touch her.
[The marks on her neck are from pinching herself. Oscar only cooperated with this farce because he wanted to hear you say you cared about him.
[Jenna, how can you marry someone else? Do you forget how he tried to make you happy that whole year? Just a couple words from you would leave him grinning all night, unable to sleep.
[When you guys took your wedding photos, Oscar wouldn't even wash the hand that touched your waist. But you never said you loved him.
[You didn't even say that at the ceremony. That's why he got all moody and tried to test you, ended up drinking himself sick, and gave himself a stomach ulcer.
[Later, when you were kicked out, Isabel told him you had run off with someone else. Oscar thought you had left him, so he was coughing up blood while searching everywhere for you.
[When he finally found you, you were already dead. He was so regretful that he killed himself to follow you.]
Was that true?
Then he deserved it.
I was naturally not good at expressing my feelings in my previous life. Oscar claimed he loved me, but he never understood me. He never saw my pain or how helpless I was.
He was lost in his own feelings, making both of us miserable, and in the end, he died moved by his own drama. That had nothing to do with me.
I gave my true heart and suffered so much injustice, but I died a miserable death. No one even listened to my side of the story.
A golden comment popped up: [Oscar is impulsive and clueless when it comes to talking things out.
[He calls it some epic star-crossed romance? Please, it's just him being selfish and making drama all on his own.]
