Chapter 2
The comments quickly filled in the blanks.
Turns out, he was Joel Montgomery.
Wait, Joel?
The richest man of Getab City's elites.
My boyfriend even considered him a good friend.
But the few times I met him, he was ice-cold, kept everyone at a distance, and made his dislike for me perfectly clear.
Now, lying stiffly in Joel's arms, the comments exploded in my mind.
[OMG, Mr. Montgomery is really committed to this act, huh?]
[LMAO, the guy who snubbed her at parties is now cooing 'baby' in bed.]
[Joel: My wife is cutest when she can't see me.]
His fingers traced light circles on the small of my back. he murmured, voice eager.
"What's on your mind?"
What's on my mind? Only how you treated me before.
Flashback to a charity gala.
He stood under a crystal chandelier in a tailored suit.
I approached with a champagne glass to say hello, but he looked straight through me, offering not even a glance.
Women nearby snickered.
"Who does she think she is? How embarrassing."
"Don't even try. Mr. Montgomery hates desperate climbers."
My boyfriend, Richard, quickly came to my defense, pulling me close and announcing, "This is my fiancée, Noelle Berry."
The guests buzzed with a mix of envy and resentment.
After all, Richard was from the prominent Andrews family, one of Getab's most powerful clans.
I remember Joel looking over from the crowd, his gaze seeming to hold scorn and mockery.
After that, I kept my distance from Joel.
But we kept running into each other.
When I joked around with our friends, he'd sit quietly reviewing documents, never joining in, just occasionally casting a cold look my way.
I found him insufferable back then. I complained to Richard, "Who brings paperwork to a bar? He's so pretentious."
Richard just laughed. He knew we didn't get along and never forced us to interact.
Everyone knew Joel disliked me.
When someone asked him why, he supposedly said, "She's too seductive. Looks like trouble."
After that, people assumed he preferred 'pure' types and sent him plenty of innocent-looking beauties. He threw them all out, furious. That finally put a stop to it.
Richard even told me that story as a joke.
I never would've guessed this guy got off on stealing other men's women.
The more I thought about it, the angrier I got.
When did I ever try to seduce him?
What did he mean I "look like trouble"?
Since when was socializing and having a normal life seductive?
In a fit of pettiness that summoned a burst of courage, I kicked him right off the bed.
Caught off guard, Joel hit the floor with a pained grunt.
He sounded shocked, then whined, "Baby, wasn't I good enough for you?"
"No, you weren't!" I snapped.
[Damn, the female lead's legs are so sexy. The antagonist hit the jackpot getting to sleep with her for two months.]
[Her feet are prettier than those of professional foot models.]
Wait. Two months?
So that was when the branch office crisis happened.
That day, my boyfriend was feeding me. I was still blind then.
He got a call, briefly told me there was an emergency at the startup branch he founded, and that he had to go handle it personally.
He said he'd arrange for someone to care for me, then hurried off.
At first, it was a home nurse.
She took good care of me, honestly.
A few days later, my boyfriend returned. He dismissed the nurse and confiscated my phone, leaving me with a basic burner model instead.
What use did a blind woman have for a fancy phone? I didn't really mind.
That night, he told me he would personally take care of me from then on.
I asked if the issue at the branch was resolved.
He didn't answer. He just focused on helping me bathe, then eagerly... pursued intimacy.
I was puzzled. We'd only been apart a few days. Why was he so insatiable? It happened over and over.
We spent a whole week in utter decadence. Even meals were taken in bed. I was completely drained; he'd feed me, and then we'd continue.
I couldn't take it anymore. I finally broke down in tears, telling him he was too much, too potent.
Only then did he call a truce.
