Chapter 1
Three months ago, a car crash stole my sight.
But strange subtitles suddenly started flashing through my mind.
[When Richard returns in a month to find his wife stolen, he'll instantly turn into a heartbroken puppy.]
So if he was not here...
Then who the hell was sleeping in my bed?
*****
"What's wrong? Is my arm too hard? Uncomfortable?" The man beside me held me close, his chin nuzzling against my neck. "You're so soft, baby. And you smell amazing."
Feeling his familiar, warm breath, my anxiety eased again.
The first time those subtitles appeared, I'd almost thought my sight had returned.
Golden text scrolled relentlessly.
[The female lead is so blessed, isn't she?]
[Judging by the 'battle damage,' last night must have been wild.]
[Can't wait to see Richard come back crying.]
[Poor male lead. Goes on a business trip and comes home to an empty bed.]
I froze. What were they talking about?
My boyfriend had always been right here in my bed.
How could I possibly cheat?
"Does it hurt? I'm sorry I couldn't hold back last night."
The chest and abs pressed against my back felt just as defined as my boyfriend's always have.
"Let me apply some ointment. Don't move."
He got up. I heard the rustle of fabric.
I let him smooth the cool salve over my skin.
His touch was feather-light, fingertips slightly cool, as if afraid of causing any pain.
"Relax."
His voice came from above me, laced with quiet amusement.
I caught his hand on instinct.
His hand felt familiar—strong, with prominent tendons. I couldn't detect any real difference.
"Don't tease me, baby. You know I can't take it."
I mumbled in response, nuzzling my face into his palm.
He chuckled softly. "So clingy today?"
His tone was as gentle as ever.
It was impossible. His voice was Richard's voice. These must be hallucinations—my mind playing tricks after everything.
I refused to believe it.
I reached up and touched his neck. Yes, the mole was still there.
"In a hurry?" His voice dropped, growing huskier.
I covered my face. I hadn't meant to brush against his Adam's apple.
He always twisted things like this.
"That Adam's apple bob... Oh my."
"LOL, the antagonist burned a fake mole into his neck with a cigarette to impersonate the male lead. Dude, you're trying way too hard."
I froze all over again.
Instantly, every hair on my body stood up.
I reached out and touched the man's Adam's apple again.
Now that they mentioned it, the mole did seem larger than before.
A wave of numbness washed over me.
What in the world was going on?
The barrage of comments kept scrolling.
From the fragmented text, I pieced together my situation.
This was some kind of male-centric story.
The male lead, Richard Andrews, was my boyfriend.
After discovering that I cheated on him, he channels his rage into building a business empire and reaching the pinnacle of success.
His famous motto: "Women just slow down my draw."
After the betrayal, he never married.
And me? I was just cannon fodder, a stepping stone he crushed on his way up.
My fate was tragic—ending up scavenging through garbage to survive.
Hold on, I was blind. How exactly was I supposed to sort through trash?
Did that even make sense?
They also claimed Richard would come to despise me, eventually driving past my garbage-picking self in his Maybach without a second glance.
Wait, didn't Maybachs leak when it rained?
And seriously, couldn't I have gotten a different job?
Did I not have any family left?
"Want another apple, baby?"
His hands began wandering again.
"Eat, eat, eat! Is that all you think about? Stop it right now!"
In a burst of anger, I slapped his hand away.
He paused, then gave a roguish grin.
"So fierce, baby. Do it again, harder."
He gathered my hands in his.
Damn, did he actually enjoy that?
How did I not notice the differences from my real boyfriend?
Who the hell was he?
A total freak.
Now... should I act like I know, or play along?
