After that day, Sophie never talked to me.

If she saw me in the school, she would sneer and mutter, "Bitch." Crushing her cigarette under her boot, she led her gang of girls away.

Even when we crossed paths at Declan's bar, she wouldn't talk to me. The moment she saw me approaching, she would just turn and leave.

Back then, we held each other's hands, sprinting through the streets with a reckless joy as our backpacks bounced against our spines.
