Chapter 4
'She's just a whore. Why is she pretending to be some saint?' Evander thought.
Just as her hand reached between her legs, Evander stepped in and took control.
He lifted her skirt, tore off her panties without a second thought, gripped her waist, and entered her in one swift motion.
Just that single thrust made Samara's face go ghostly pale from the pain. She clung to the stone table beneath her, desperate not to collapse.
Cold sweat broke out on her bare back, only to be washed away by the rain.
Feeling the thin barrier between them, Evander paused for a moment.
His eyes roamed over Samara's body, searching for something.
When he spotted the burn mark on her shoulder blade, his movements grew faster and rougher.
"Samara, how much were you planning to make off this scar? Feeling shortchanged now that you only got 70 thousand dollars?" he sneered.
He flipped her over, and seeing her eyes squeezed shut, his movements grew even more brutal.
"Or did you have this scar made on purpose? Was it just so you could save some guy and get something out of him?" he spat.
Pain shot through Samara's entire body. She couldn't get a word out. All she could do was grit her teeth and take it.
The veins on Evander's hand stood out as he grabbed her slender neck, making her meet his eyes.
"Say something! I don't want a wooden head!" he growled.
With his almost savage grip, choked, messy noises spilled from Samara's throat.
She desperately endured it, biting her lips until they bled, but it was all in vain.
Seeing her like that, Evander became even more brutal, like he was hell-bent on breaking her right then and there.
After what felt like forever, the rain finally stopped, and that pleasure that felt more like torment came to an end.
Evander casually grabbed his coat from the ground and flung it over Samara.
"Put it on," he said.
Samara's gaze was lifeless as she gripped Evander's wrist tightly, refusing to let go.
"Money," she said.
That single word sent Evander over the edge. He hauled her to her feet, rough and unforgiving.
"Samara, is money the only thing on your mind? Even prostitutes show a little warmth sometimes! Honestly, you're not even worth what they are!" he spat.
Finally, Evander flung the cash at Samara, letting it rain down on her, just like she'd wanted.
"Pick up the money and get the hell out! Don't ever let me see you again!" he shouted.
Samara knelt down, gathering the scattered bills one by one.
Her eyes lingered on the money strewn across the ground. As she tried to stand, everything suddenly went black.
"Samara!" Evander shouted.
When Samara woke up, she found herself in her own bed, her bags still half-packed beside her.
She tried to get up, but the maid reached out and held her back.
"Can't you see you're still on an IV? Don't move!" the maid snapped.
Her tone was sharp.
Ever since Samara moved in, the staff treated her like she didn't belong.
"She really thinks she can turn herself into a queen overnight. Just wait till Mr. Hale kicks her to the curb," one of them snickered.
"She only saved Mr. Hale so she could trap him into marrying her. Women like her are a dime a dozen," another scoffed.
Everyone was just waiting for her bubble to burst, eager to see her crash back to reality.
But a year passed, then two, then three...
And instead of pushing her away, Evander just treated her better and better as the years went by.
Then, starting last year, everything changed.
It was like the whole world flipped upside down.
Out of nowhere, Evander started openly chasing after other women, not even trying to hide it.
The gossip that had finally died down started swirling around her again, filling her ears with whispers and rumors once more.
"I always knew Mr. Hale would eventually get bored of her," one of the maids snickered.
"No guy ever sticks to just one woman, especially not someone with Mr. Hale's status," another added with a smirk.
Samara didn't say a word. She just stayed by his side.
She trusted he had his reasons, and kept waiting for him to explain himself.
But now, she couldn't afford to wait any longer.
Samara reached out and pulled the IV needle from her hand.
"You..." the maid started, her voice full of shock.
"Move aside. Mr. Hale won't hold it against you!" Samara snapped.
She frantically searched for her phone, only to find it was dead.
Her heart skipped a beat. It had to be morning already. She had no clue what was happening with her mom.
Not caring about the blood dripping from her hand where she'd ripped out the IV, she just grabbed a coat and rushed out without a second thought.
When Samara finally made it to the hospital, she couldn't help but feel like every single person was staring right at her.
Her heart lurched, and as she ran, she was silently praying for a miracle.
'Nothing will happen. Mom will wait for me,' Samara tried to convince herself.
When she got to the hospital room, her mom was nowhere to be seen. Samara rushed to find the doctor, pulled out all the cash she had, and handed it to him.
"I've got the money. 70 thousand dollars. Please, can you do the surgery for my mom now?" she pleaded, her voice trembling.
"Samara..." the doctor began.
He barely got the words out before she interrupted him.
