Chapter 2
The next moment, Edward grabbed my wrist and pushed my sleeve up.
Two faint pink hickeys came into view.
"Julia, and you still say there's no other man!" Edward barked.
I yanked my hand back, glanced at the marks, and let out a light laugh. "What does it matter to you if there is or isn't?"
His face darkened, and his lips pressed into a thin line. "How dare you sneak around with another man behind my back! Have you no shame?"
Hearing this, I was speechless. "Edward, you've already proposed to someone else. What's wrong with me finding a man I like?
"Doesn't this work out perfectly? You have your new fling, and I'll never bother you again."
Edward's expression was ugly. He stared at me in silence for a moment before letting out a scornful laugh.
"Julia, so you think pulling this stunt is going to jog my memory?" Edward scoffed. "That's so childish. You think I'd fall for it? I'm telling you, no way!"
Molly, still wrapped up in his arms, quickly tilted her face up and pressed a comforting kiss to his lips.
Edward's arm around her tightened abruptly.
They started kissing right there, as if no one else was in the room.
I watched coldly, a wave of nausea rising within me.
The Edward of lately was like a completely different person from who he used to be. I sometimes wondered if the man I'd loved for six years was just a dream I'd had.
"Edward, what are you doing?" Michael's voice came from the doorway. He had returned and was standing there, staring coldly at Edward.
Edward was most afraid of his uncle, Michael.
He instantly let go of Molly's hand, stammering, "N-nothing, I just came to see my fiancée."
"Fiancée?" Michael repeated, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Michael's gaze swept over me and Molly, and he snorted. "Which one is your fiancée?"
Edward reluctantly pointed at me.
Molly's eyes widened. "Eddie!"
Edward shot her a look, telling her to shut up.
I sat on the sofa, not at all surprised by Edward's choice.
The Evans and Foster families had a business marriage alliance. It fell to Edward because we grew up together.
When we were in love, the engagement was the icing on the cake. When the love was gone, it became a shackle.
With his fake amnesia, he could fool around all he wanted.
I pointed at Molly. "I'm not your fiancée. From now on, she is."
I turned to Michael and smiled slightly. "I want to break off my engagement with Edward."
Edward's face changed, and he looked at me in shock.
He seemed not to have expected that I was serious about calling it off.
Michael's expression remained neutral. He just nodded and calmly pulled out a contract.
"Julia, Edward's father knows all about his ridiculous behavior," Michael said. "Since you've decided to break the engagement, all the shares under Edward's name will be transferred to you as compensation."
Edward rushed forward, trying to snatch the agreement away.
He roared, "Uncle Mike, this is a marriage between the two of us. How can Julia decide alone? I don't agree to breaking the engagement!"
Looking into Edward's frantic eyes, I just felt disgusted.
He didn't care about six years of feelings at all.
But he remembered those shares perfectly.
Edward turned to me, his voice rising. "Julia, didn't you want me to get my memory back? Fine, I'll do it, okay?"
As he said this, his eyes were glued to the contract.
He seemed so nervous, almost as if I reached for the pen, he'd leap to stop me.
"Julia, even if you break up with me, you'll still need to marry someone for the alliance, right?" Edward said. "Now I promise to get my memories back. Let's not break up. It's a win-win, isn't it?"
I stared at him, a mocking smile curling my lips.
"Oh? Are memories that easy to get back? And who said I want a 'win-win' with you?" I shot back.
"Edward, don't you love Molly? I'm willing to step aside. Isn't that what you want?" I said, voice thick with sarcasm.
"It's just a few shares. You're a Foster. What do those shares matter? It's not worth forcing yourself for them!" I scoffed.
Edward gritted his teeth, his eyes red with anger and humiliation.
"You don't get it!" he snapped.
I shrugged. "You're right, I don't."
Then I looked at Molly and listed Edward's assets one by one.
"He owns countless properties and luxury cars. His bank accounts have more zeros than you can count. If he doesn't break off the engagement with me, you won't get anything." I said.
Molly, who had been silent for a long time, finally rushed forward.
She took Edward's hand and comforted him softly. "Eddie, you love me the most. I don't want to see you marry another woman. Look at this necklace. You already went to your mother's grave and swore that I would be your wife."
Edward shoved Molly away sharply, his scolding voice tinged with guilt. "Stop talking nonsense. I never did that. My true love is Jules."
I forced back the tears and watched him perform.
Even when we were most in love, Edward had never gone to his mother's grave to swear an oath like that.
But now, he'd done it for another woman.
At that moment, the loving images in my memory completely faded.
I smiled, reached out, and took the contract from Michael.
Under Edward's disbelieving gaze, I signed my name.
Whatever he cared about, I would take it from him.
Trading six years of feelings for Foster Enterprises shares? Not a bad deal.
Edward was livid, his chest heaving with rage.
He gritted his teeth, his voice vicious. "Julia, you'll regret this. Let's see who would dare want you after you break up with me."
I smiled brightly. "You really want to see? Then consider this your invitation to mine and my boyfriend's wedding in one week!"
