Chapter 4
As soon as Charlotte finished speaking, Richard and Evelyn were absolutely floored. They stared at their daughter, eyes wide, as if they couldn't believe what they were hearing.
She doesn't like Alexander anymore? And she's not going to chase after him? Did hell freeze over or something?' they both thought, utterly dumbfounded.
For years, Charlotte had been obsessed with Alexander. She cried over him, threw tantrums for him, and did everything she could for him. No matter how many times they tried to talk her out of it, nothing worked. And now, she was suddenly saying she didn't like him anymore?
Evelyn was so excited she grabbed Charlotte's hand, her voice trembling. "Charlotte, are you really serious? Did you finally figure it out?"
"I am," Charlotte said, nodding with resolve."Mom, Dad, I was so immature before and caused you so much worry. I promise I won't do anything stupid ever again. From now on, I want to stay by your side and truly enjoy life."
"Good! That's great! Wonderful!" Richard repeated, a rare smile breaking out on his face, his eyes even a little red.
"It's so good you've finally come to your senses. Our daughter has brains, looks, and a great family, you could have any man you want. Why chase after someone who doesn't even care about you?"
Evelyn wiped her eyes, feeling relieved. "As long as you're happy, we're happy. From now on, we won't care about anyone else's opinion. We'll live our lives and enjoy ourselves. That's better than anything."
With years of worry finally lifted from their shoulders, Richard and Evelyn were in great spirits. The dinner table felt cozier and more cheerful than ever.
Seeing her parents so happy, Charlotte's heart felt all warm and fuzzy. Ditching her lovesick ways didn't just make her happier, it also put her parents' minds at ease. Total win-win.
After breakfast, Charlotte headed back to her room and opened the original owner's closet. The moment she saw what was inside, she was totally blown away.
The entire wall was lined with haute couture gowns, Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Hermès, you name it. Every color, every style, and each one worth hundreds of thousands, even millions.
The cabinet next to it was packed with limited-edition bags, Himalaya crocodile Birkin bags, Kelly bags, so many she couldn't even count them. And the shoe rack? It was filled with heels, flats, and sneakers from all the top brands, every size and style imaginable.
Charlotte's eyes were practically spinning, and she couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. 'This isn't a closet, it's heaven.' she thought.
Charlotte picked out a creamy white casual dress without even thinking, simple, stylish, and unbelievably soft. She slipped on a pair of white flat sandals, and with this easy look, she was drop-dead gorgeous.
After getting dressed, Charlotte picked up the original owner's phone, opened the banking app, and nearly gasped when she saw the endless string of numbers on the screen.
The digits kept climbing, thousands, millions, tens of millions, all the way up to hundreds of millions... Eight hundred million, sitting in her checking account.
And that was the cash, she hadn't even counted all the real estate, sports cars, company shares, and investments in her name.
Charlotte's heart was pounding so hard she felt like she might float away. 'Eight hundred million, are you kidding me?' Charlotte thought, her jaw practically dropping.
