Chapter 3
When the maid came back and told her Alexander was gone, Charlotte, still hiding under her blanket, couldn't help but smirk in pure delight.
'Hell yeah, that was awesome.' Charlotte thought, feeling totally refreshed.
Rejecting the male lead, now that's a real win in life.
'Alexander, from now on, you and I will stay out of each other's way. You take your road, I'll take mine, and we'll never see each other again.' Charlotte thought to herself.
Now that she was finally rid of Alexander, Charlotte was in a fantastic mood. She lazily got up and washed up, taking her sweet time.
Standing at a vanity that could pass for a mini makeup studio, Charlotte stared at her jaw-droppingly gorgeous face in the mirror and couldn't help but sigh, 'The original was seriously spoiled by the gods with these looks, yet totally wasted on chasing romance.'
She picked up a lipstick and swiped it on, watching the mirror. It made her skin look like fresh snow, and her eyes and brows now carried a striking, radiant energy. The original owner's timid vibe was gone, now replaced by Charlotte's own lazy confidence.
"Miss, please come downstairs for breakfast. Madam especially had the kitchen prepare your favorite truffle soup and French-style pan-seared foie gras," Smith called out again, her tone still laced with confusion over Charlotte's sudden change in behavior.
Charlotte answered, slipped into a comfy silk robe, and took her sweet time strolling downstairs.
The Winters family's villa was absurdly massive, it took several minutes to get from her bedroom on the second floor to the dining room downstairs. The place was dripping with luxury, money practically in the air, and Charlotte couldn't help but feel delighted.
So this is what it's like to be filthy rich? I'm living for this.' Charlotte thought, practically bouncing with excitement.
In the dining room, Charlotte's parents, Richard and Evelyn, were already seated at the table. When Charlotte came downstairs, Evelyn immediately gave her a gentle smile and waved her over. "Charlotte, come here. Mom made you some truffle soup to help you recover."
Richard set aside his financial newspaper and looked at his daughter, his eyes full of doting affection.
"Smith told me you turned in early last night. Were you feeling tired? Still, it's good to get some rest. Try not to stay up too late, it's bad for your health."
Charlotte's heart warmed at the sight of her parents, so gentle and caring, their eyes full of love for her.
Charlotte's parents truly loved her, doted on her, and treated her like their precious girl. But the original was totally blinded by love, she kept defying her parents for Alexander, breaking their hearts over and over. In the end, she ruined the Winters family and caused her parents' deaths. She had no one to blame but herself.
This time, Charlotte had inherited the original body and family, and she was determined to be a good daughter and keep the Winters family safe. She'd make sure the same tragedy never happened again.
Charlotte walked over to the table, sat down, and took a spoonful of the truffle soup. It was silky-smooth, sweet, and bursting with collagen.
"Thanks, Mom and Dad. The truffle soup is really delicious," she said with a gentle smile, her tone warm and affectionate.
Evelyn looked at her daughter and couldn't help but notice something was different about Charlotte today.
Charlotte used to have Alexander on her mind all the time, even at the dinner table, she'd barely pay attention and would always ask about him. But today, she didn't mention Alexander at all.
Instead, she was unusually well-behaved and gentle. Gone was that obsessed, stubborn look in her eyes; now she seemed relaxed and laid-back, so much more comfortable to be around.
Evelyn couldn't hold back her curiosity and asked, "Charlotte, sweetheart, Alexander stopped by now. Why didn't you go see him?"
At the mention of him, Charlotte's spoon paused in midair, her smile fading. She answered calmly, "Didn't feel like it. He's boring."
Richard and Evelyn exchanged glances, catching the surprise in each other's eyes.
Didn't want to see him? He's boring? Is this really the same daughter who used to treat Alexander like he was her whole world?' Both were stunned.
Evelyn asked cautiously, "Charlotte, did you and Alexander have a little spat? If he made you upset, say the word and I'll go set him straight."
To Evelyn, Charlotte was the best daughter anyone could ask for. Alexander was always distant and aloof toward her, and Evelyn had never liked it, but she kept quiet for Charlotte's sake, since her daughter was so smitten.
Charlotte set her spoon down, looked her parents right in the eye, and said, "Mom, Dad, it's not that we had a fight. I finally came to my senses. From now on, I don't like Alexander anymore, and I won't go chasing after him."
"He's got his own crush, and I've got my own life to live. There's really no need for me to keep orbiting around him, wasting my time and making you guys worry," she added.
