Chapter 3
I would become the mood killer if I joined the happy family now.
Right then, Daisy asked, "Where is Dora?"
Instantly, silence fell. My parents kept their mouths tightly shut.
Standing next to me, Danial was expressionless.
"She is too ashamed to come here. She burned down our house, didn't she? I let Danial bring her here for Christmas Eve. We will give her a good lecture after she arrives," Mom coldly said.
I looked at Danial in astonishment.
"You were there. I didn't cause the fire, and it is Daisy who did..." I said.
With a jerk, Danial turned his head to me and ordered in a low voice, "Shut up!"
Scared, I retreated to a corner.
I was sensitive to sounds and the emotions of others. I didn't know when it started.
Hatred, resentment, and anger from others made my body shiver.
"I am sorry..." I mumbled.
With a cold look, Danial whispered, "My little sister is timid. Do you want to ruin this Christmas Eve? Is the truth that important?"
It sounded as if I were not his little sister.
I rubbed my skinny hand and nodded.
"I will keep my mouth shut," I promised.
Danial's expression was softened. "Go inside. Dad and Mom told me to bring you back."
I lowered my head and then shook it. "Can you give me some money? I need medicine."
Danial changed his expression again, and there was aversion in his eyes.
"What's wrong with you? After a long separation, you think of nothing but money."
Speaking, Danial pulled out several bills and flung them toward my face.
Expressionless, I squatted down and picked up the money.
Danial clenched his fists as if he were infuriated.
"Shame on you! Won't you do something after I insulted you?" he coldly said.
I would give him a good beating when I still had a temper.
Now, I just ignored him.
Suddenly, my belly ached acutely.
On my period, I had just drunk the cold and dirty water not long ago...
"May I have a glass of warm water? Please..."
In pain, I clutched my belly, and there were tears in my eyes.
Danial gave me a smirk because I suddenly showed the white feather.
He said nothing, strode into the house, and slammed the door behind him.
"I failed to bring her back because she didn't want to come at all."
Outside the door, I heard Danial's loud voice.
Because of the piercing pain in my belly, a cold sweat broke out on my forehead, and I wanted to throw up.
My legs twitched, so I knelt on the ground.
Before I blacked out, I seemed to see my family's shocked faces.
