Chapter 7

I woke up in a maternity ward hospital bed.

I froze, clutched my belly, and cried, "Baby!"

Thomas's voice beside me was gentle. "Relax. The baby's fine."

I turned to him, checking how I felt.

Aside from a dull ache in my lower belly, nothing else felt wrong.

I feared my baby was gone, but just as I reached for the nurse call button, my son's voice came to mind.

['Mom, I almost kicked the bucket! Next time, watch your step, okay?']

I sighed and whispered, "Don't worry, baby. Mommy will be careful next time."
