Chapter 5
I figured it was probably that reborn girl stirring up trouble again, but the way Thomas was acting killed any urge I had to ask.
Just give birth and let them suffer.
Besides, my son would never hold it against me.
"Fine, I'll give you another 6 grand later. Once I've packed my stuff, I'll move out," Thomas said.
"No way, I'll go, not you!" I shot back.
Chloe rented a two-bedroom near her office last month.
She hoped to find a girl to split the rent but hadn't yet.
I shot her a quick message.
She said she was negotiating with someone but would drop them instantly if I wanted to move in.
I told her I'd be moving in that afternoon.
Chloe promised to make the place spotless for my immediate move-in.
Once I found a place, I packed my bags.
Sniffling and swearing, I shoved my things into bags.
"Asshole! Douchebag! So what if we break up?" I shouted.
['Break up? Seriously? I just napped and the whole world went crazy,'] my son began.
['Can't you stay together? Having a mom is great, but having a dad makes life happier.']
['Maybe I'm overthinking. This isn't about happiness. I'm about to kick the bucket again.']
['I have the whole plot but can't change a thing. Ugh, I'm such a loser!']
['This is the worst. I just wanna sob.']
'Don't worry, kiddo. Mom's not gonna let you kick the bucket,' I reassured my son in my head.
"Even with the whole plot, I'm still useless," I sighed.
'I feel terrible too. I just want to cry my eyes out.'
Most of the house stuff was mine, except basic necessities. Packing it all was a nightmare.
I spent two hours sorting, only halfway done, then exhausted, starving, and crying from frustration.
'Pathetic!' I scolded myself.
I collapsed on the bed, cried, then forced myself to keep packing.
After packing the bedroom, I moved to the living room.
Halfway through, Thomas came back.
He looked exhausted, with bloodshot eyes and no sleep.
I shot him a quick look, then turned away and kept packing.
After about two minutes, he suddenly spoke up, his voice cold and distant.
"Don't rush. Only move once you have a place," he said.
I stopped for a moment, my voice icy. "Already did."
Thomas just kept quiet after that.
There was a teddy bear perched on the top shelf of the bookcase.
I pulled over a stool and climbed up.
Thomas watched me nervously. "What are you doing?"
I retorted, "Just stay out of it!"
He opened his mouth but stayed silent.
Standing on the stool, I reached up and grabbed the teddy bear from the top shelf.
As I stepped down, I met Thomas's anxious eyes. My nose pricked, and tears came.
After a few seconds of his gaze, my eyes welled up again.
"Do you even want this kid?" I demanded, staring at him.
Thomas looked away, his voice carrying a barely noticeable tremor.
"No," he replied coldly.
I was just kidding myself, I thought bitterly.
Fuming, I jumped down from the stool.
He practically jumped out of his skin, totally startled by my sudden move.
His hands reached for me, but his legs failed before he stood.
He realized what he was doing and pulled his hands back.
"Don't do that again. It's dangerous," Thomas warned.
"Why care if it's dangerous? You don't want this kid anyway," I snapped.
It was a short stool, so I knew I wouldn't get hurt when I jumped.
Before I knew I was pregnant, I jumped from higher places.
He pressed his lips together. "You're being reckless."
He wanted to dump me for being "too much," but now he acts like he cares.
Like he's so torn up about losing me or something.
"Thomas, I hate you!" I shouted.
