Chapter 3
I curled up on the couch, staring blankly at the empty room.
Thinking back to those happy days we once shared, my nose tingled and my eyes stung with unshed tears.
Thomas and I went to the same college.
He was three years my senior.
He was the campus heartthrob.
Tall, handsome, talented, yet aloof that was his only flaw.
Compared to Thomas, I was just an ordinary girl with only my looks.
I fell for Thomas at first sight in college. After three years of pursuing him, we got together just before I graduated, and he had finished his master's.
After we united, all coldness vanished. He became a devoted boyfriend, always putting me first.
I loved him, even after he ended up in a wheelchair.
If I hadn't found that thong, I wouldn't have even thought about breaking up with him.
Just thinking about that lacy thong made me feel even more annoyed and miserable.
Why did I have to open my big mouth so quickly?
If I had stayed silent ten more seconds, none of this would happen.
If Thomas really wanted to break up, I'd accept it.
As for the little one in my belly, if I hadn't heard the baby's thoughts, I wouldn't have doubted aborting it.
Every time I heard that little voice sigh, I couldn't do it.
At worst, I'd have the baby and make Thomas pay child support.
That girl would steal my boyfriend, so why not have a baby to spite her?
As I thought about it, a dark, vengeful feeling started to simmer inside me.
Thirty minutes after blocking Thomas, Felix called.
I was sure Thomas was calling from Felix's phone. After a moment, I answered.
His voice came through, low and rough. I could hear the pain in it.
"Baby, it's me," he said.
I finally cried, wiped my tears messily, then snapped at him.
"Don't call me baby. Say what you mean, no nonsense."
"Baby, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have talked to you like that," he regreted.
Thomas hesitated, then said, "I don't want me and the baby to hold you back. You're young and have your whole life ahead."
The tears just kept coming, and I was getting angrier by the second.
"I never thought like that, alright?" I snapped.
His legs may not work, but his brain and hands still support us.
I can take care of all the chores myself.
I could take charge in bed.
Chloe Taylor always made fun of me for being totally obsessed with romance.
I was ready to go all in, but he got cold feet. Even if he said it was for my good, I couldn't appreciate it.
Thomas sounded anxious.
"Don't cry, it's my fault. When I return, we'll get our marriage license at City Hall. The wedding may wait," he promised softly.
I sobbed, "The wedding doesn't matter. Skip the bride price and jewelry, just pay me back when you can."
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm totally love-brained.
Like, the totally incurable kind.
Honestly, unless he actually cheated on me, I'd never be able to let him go.
"Baby, don't cry. It's my fault. Please don't be mad. When I return, let's make it official," Thomas pleaded.
I was crying so hard I couldn't even speak.
It took about ten minutes, but with Thomas's soothing words, I finally started to calm down.
Right after the call, I took him off my block list, and from then on, we kept in touch constantly.
Except when he was in meetings or asleep, he'd reply to my messages in a flash.
I felt our bond deepen, like falling in love again.
My heart was bursting with happiness at getting him back.
Then I thought of the girl with the unknown identity and felt uneasy again.
I had this nagging feeling she was still up to no good.
Before I knew it, a week had passed.
The night before Thomas returned, we planned to get our marriage license at City Hall.
His flight lands at 2 a.m., and he'll likely get home by 3 a.m.
I planned to wait for him, but by 1 a.m. I was too tired and went to bed.
I slept straight through until I woke up on my own.
By the time I opened my eyes, it was already bright outside.
I quickly checked my phone, 9:15 a.m.
Thomas should've been home ages ago, but he wasn't in bed.
I jumped out of bed, barefoot, and rushed into the living room.
The living room was empty, no sign of Thomas.
