Chapter 3
So all I had to do was bring back my charm for you to stare at me like that again, huh?
"I'm going to my company. My two-month leave is over," I replied briefly.
"Why? If you miss me, you can always come visit me there." I tried to hold back my laughter at the things coming out of my mouth—I must be feeling extra bold today.
I saw him trying to suppress a smile because of what I said. Oh my god, is that really my husband?! He’s back—or correction, he’s on his way back to being his old self! He’s not shutting down my chatter anymore, and he even ate the food I cooked.
This can’t be mixed signals, right? Earlier he was cold, now it’s like he’s my old Khalil again. Maybe he realized what he was doing and I’ve finally gotten my husband back.
I hope this continues!
“Babe, I have to go. I’ll just eat at the office—I don’t have time anymore.” I walked up to him and gave him a kiss on the lips. Just a smack.
I was thrilled because he didn’t push me away! My baby is back. My Khalil is back!
“Wait here, I’ll just get something.” He stood up and went to the guest room he had been sleeping in.
I was even surprised by what he did—I’d gotten used to being scolded and yelled at every morning. But today felt like my real Khalil was back.
Please let it be like this every day, Lord. I just want to be happy with my husband again.
While I was silently praying, I didn’t even notice that he was already standing in front of me. He was dressed casually in a simple white V-neck shirt and cotton shorts.
“Come on, I’ll drive you,” he said as he pulled my hand to go out with him.
I couldn’t react right away—I was still trying to process everything that was happening.
He opened the passenger door for me, so I got in right away. He walked around to the driver’s side and got in too.
“As long as you don’t have a driver, I’ll be the one to take you to work. You know I don’t like it when you drive alone—it’s too risky,” he said seriously, his eyes focused on the road.
I didn’t know what to say—I was so happy. He was finally paying attention to me again.
“Thank you, baby! You should be resting, but you still drove me,” I said joyfully. I was probably being a bit over the top, but I just couldn’t stop smiling.
But my smile only grew wider with what he said next.
He rested one hand on my thigh and looked at me—that look that showed he missed me and was filled with love.
“This is my responsibility as your husband, Esra.” I almost cried tears of joy when he said that, but I didn’t want to show it. Finally, my Khalil is back!
“Looks like you're having a really good morning, Mrs. Echavez. That smile is something else!” my assistant teased as soon as she saw me.
I didn’t even realize she was already there. And I also hadn’t realized I was still smiling when I got to my office floor.
It was because of my husband—before I got out of the car, he even stole a kiss on the lips.
He's getting flirty again!
“It is a good morning, Leigh! Do I have any scheduled meetings today? If not, come with me—I have so much to tell you,” I said excitedly to my friend and assistant.
That’s Leigh Velasco, my childhood best friend. She’s like a sister to me, and my parents treat her like their own daughter. Leigh doesn’t come from the same kind of life we have, but my family and I love her deeply. In fact, my parents wanted to offer her a higher position in the company, but she refused. So she became my secretary—but I don’t really make her work that hard, since we mostly gossip more than we work.
“You don’t have anything scheduled this morning, Mrs. Echavez,” she replied politely, which made me frown a little.
“Hey, don’t be so formal—people might think we’re not friends,” I told her, which made her laugh.
I went into my office, and I could feel her following behind me.
As soon as I sat down in my swivel chair, she bombarded me with questions.
“Hey Esra Bethani, why were you smiling from ear to ear earlier?! You and that jerk of a husband of yours are okay now, huh?” she teased.
I laughed at what she said—she already knew exactly why I was so happy.
I nodded at her as my answer, then I told her everything—starting from how things started to turn around between me and Khalil.
“Should I be thanking that Anya girl? Because after she called and he stepped out of the room, he suddenly became okay with me again. Like The Flash when it comes to making up.”
We reconciled without any apologies or explanations. I accepted him back right away—because I love him, and I trust him in what he does.
