Chapter 2
I’m not a bad woman to just assume the worst—maybe he met her during his business trip and she’s a business partner of theirs.
I was surprised by how my husband reacted when he suddenly snatched the phone from me—as if he, too, was shocked that she was calling him.
“Who is she?” I repeated my question.
He looked at me, and I could see the nervousness in his eyes, though he was trying hard to hide it.
“Hello? Am I talking to air here?” I was starting to lose my patience because he still wasn’t answering me.
“Get out.” I was stunned by what he said. I was just asking a question, and that’s what he had to say?
“I’ll leave this room once you tell me who’s calling you.” I challenged him.
Why shouldn’t I ask? I have the right—I’m his wife.
I kept my eyes on him, waiting for answers, but he was avoiding eye contact.
Are you cheating on me, Khalil Zion Echavez?
You better not be—otherwise, you’ll lose this full-package wife.
“She’s one of our business partners in Paris,” he answered lifelessly. “Now you know. You can leave the room—you got what you wanted.” He stood up from the bed and left me stunned by his words. He went straight to the veranda and only then answered the call.
He’s so annoying! I was going to leave anyway!
I slammed his door on my way out and went back to our real bedroom.
I needed to take a quick bath now because I didn’t want to smell like food at work.
While I was in the bathtub, I couldn’t help but stay annoyed at him. Why didn’t he answer the call in front of me? Maybe she’s his mistress. And here I go again—getting paranoid.
But even if things aren’t okay between us, I still know he wouldn’t look for someone else. I’m just being paranoid and mad right now.
My thoughts were interrupted when the alarm on my phone went off.
My period tracker.
Now I understand why I’ve been so irritable lately—this is my red week.
I don’t usually get mad at him this easily—I actually have a lot of patience when it comes to my husband. Except, of course, when it’s my red days—then I have zero patience. We always argue during this time because not only do I get paranoid, I also become extra dramatic about everything.
I pushed aside my thoughts about him while I soaked in the bathtub. I grabbed my phone and took a picture of myself in the bath.
A half-naked picture—only my shoulders and collarbones were visible, with my lips slightly pouting in a sexy way.
I’m going to post this on Instagram—my husband follows me there, so he’s definitely going to see it.
Let’s see if you can resist the sexiness of your wife.
I posted it immediately and even added a caption. This will show me if he still gets hot just from seeing me.
@esbethani
Let me distract you honey.
After getting out of the bathroom, I dressed up right away. I wore a formal dress—yes, I love dresses, so I usually wear them to the office. I paired it with stiletto heels, applied light makeup, and curled my beautiful hair.
I looked at myself in the full-length mirror in the room.
Perfect! I looked absolutely stunning.
I grabbed my Hermès Birkin bag, which was also a gift from Khalil. He used to shower me with luxury bags before—every monthsary, in fact. Even though we’ve been together for years, we still celebrated each month we were together… well, until these last two months.
But anyway, I don’t want to be sad today. I have a lot to handle at the company. I had taken more than two months off to fix things between my husband and me—but nothing changed. So now, I have to make it up to the company.
I walked out of the room, and as I was going down the stairs, I heard someone in the kitchen.
I saw my husband eating and clearly enjoying the food I made for him. But I also noticed that while he was eating, he looked deep in thought—he didn’t even notice how goddess-like his wife looked coming down the stairs.
“Hey! Good thing you ate that. At least my cooking didn’t go to waste.” I said, tapping him, which startled him.
He looked at me and scanned my whole appearance. Your wife is gorgeous, right?
“I know I look good, but careful—you might melt me with that stare,” I teased, trying to lighten his mood.
“What are you saying, woman? Why are you all dressed up like that today?” he asked with furrowed brows, still staring.
