Chapter 3
Alana’s POV……..
I was scared, my heart was beating against my chest, what was he doing here, what did he want from me after so many years, I paid the cab driver extra to wait and once he disappeared into an alley; I quickly got out, and I sprinted into the apartment building, I made sure to lock my door from behind and a tear slipped out of my eyes.
I headed into my room with fear, I pulled out my gun from my closet and I laid it under my pillow before I collapsed on the bed and darkness consumed me.
I woke up to a banging coming from my door, my chest tightened against my chest, I glanced around the room when my eyes met the wall lock, it was a little after three, I know no one except from Calista; I was scared that it’s someone I didn’t want to see, I was scared that it will be him.
I could still hear the knocking, it got louder by the minute, I glanced around the room and I pulled out my gun from under my pillow and I headed toward the door, I wish I could call the cops, but I can’t, that would only be terrible for me, my body trembled when I headed toward the door, my hands shook as I opened the door softly, my gun was pointed toward the door.
When my brother came into view, my eyes widened when I saw his state; he looked nothing like he did when I saw him earlier today, he was beaten, he has wounds all over his body.
“What are you doing here Asher.” I asked, I glanced around the place to make sure no one followed him before I led him into the house and I locked the door from behind. “You need to leave.”
“I’m injured, you can’t throw me out.” Asher said.
“I don’t care what happened to you, you are not supposed to be here, nothing good comes from you being here.” I mumbled, I wrapped my hand around my body and a breath escaped my lips, my heart was still beating rapidly against my chest, I was trying to call my nerves down.
“Are you not going to offer me water or try to take care of my wounds.” Asher said.
“I’m not going to ask again; what the hell are you doing here Asher.” I whispered-yelled, I headed toward my glass window and I glanced around the streets, I can’t help but be paranoid.
I haven’t seen my brother in five years, ever since he picked everyone over me; he never gave me a chance; I made sure to stay away.
I was scared that he is here, why didn’t he go to his favorite sister, why was he here, why did he want to ruin the life that I built for myself, I made sure to erase everything from my past, I should, I have known, no matter how I run away, my past will always find its way to me.
I shook off the thoughts when I looked back at Asher, he hasn’t said a word since he got here, I just want him to leave.
“I’m sorry, Alana.” Asher mumbled, and I shake my head, my eyes brimming with tears, any time he apologizes, it only meant that he did something terribly wrong, something that will make me curse the day he came my brother.
“No, don’t do that; I haven’t seen you in five years, and you barge into my house at three in the morning to apologize; I don’t want that; I don’t need that right now.” I yelled.
“I swear I tried, I didn’t have a choice, I just need you to know I always cared about you; I knew you where you will be able to get back on your feet.” Asher said.
“No.” I yelled, “do you hear me Asher, I don’t want your stupid apology, you stop being my brother the day you left me so right now I need you to speak or else I am going to fucking shoot you, you abandoned me, and you are here to apologize, for what exactly.” I asked, my eyes were brimming with tears, my heart tightened against my chest, “why are you apologizing, for leaving me all these years or for never bothering to check up one or for having your best friend destroy my life, which one of them.” I asked.
My chest tightened against my heart when I looked back at him.
“I made a mistake and there is no going back from it, I need you to leave, pack your thing and leave the city, I have new passports and I will find you a place to live, you can’t stay here.” Asher said, and my eyes widened, he has no right to tell me what to do with my life.
“Get out-no listen to me; they are coming for you.” Asher said cutting me off and my heart sank, I felt a wave of goosebumps washes over my skin.
“Who are they?” I asked, he glanced at me with fear written all over his eyes; he was about to speak when I heard a knock coming from my door; I noticed how Asher shivered in fear.
“Who is it, Asher?” I asked, I could barely hear my voice over the pounding of my chest, my finger trembled against each other when the knock became persistent.
“We need to leave.” Asher whispered, “we don’t have much time, they are not here for me, but there are here for you, the moment that door opens, they are going to come for you.”
“Why? What did you do, I’m not leaving until you tell me, believe me I will take my chances because I will rather trust them then trust you, at least I know they won’t lie to me.” I gritted through my teeth, I hated him so much, he reminded me so much of our father and my sister.
I looked back at Asher and his eyes were filled with a familiar fear from years ago, I felt the weight of my world crumbling, the shoes of my last closing in, and I realized that my brother has sold me to the devil himself.
