"Don't be sad. Let me get to know you, okay?" Snowy said.

My heartbeat was about to explode. I was drowning in guilt and self-loathing. But I still wanted to lick Snowy, to be with Snowy.

If I didn't lick Snowy, someone else would be rushing to lick him. Better that Snowy be tricked by me than by some other wretched animal.

I carefully raised my snake head, tears brimming in my eyes. "Really?"

"Really. My name is Snowy. What's yours?"
