Chapter 1
My husband's childhood sweetheart, Emily Dawson, always said she was like a ray of sunshine for her patients.
But one day, she changed a patient's positive test result to negative.
When the truth came out, she put on a pitiful face and explained, "The patient was already in so much pain. I changed his result just so he could feel healthy for a moment and cheer up a bit."
When the patient caused a huge scene, she ignored him and came running to apologize to me instead. "Fiona, he said he wants to file a complaint. I panicked and gave him your name."
Because of that, I was reported and lost all my performance bonuses.
But Emily didn't lose sleep over it though. "We're here to be angels in white, not to make money. Why care so much about bonuses?"
There was no talking sense into her, so I went to my husband, Ryan Shaw.
He brushed it off as if it were nothing. "It's just a harmless joke. I'll make up whatever bonus you lost."
Later on, a famous celebrity was admitted for surgery.
Emily pretended she didn't know how important it was to fast before surgery and deliberately gave the patient the apple he loved most.
When I caught it, I immediately rescheduled the surgery.
The operation went well, though the recovery was rough.
Emily then whispered to the patient behind my back, "Eating the apple is what kept you safe during surgery. It's our hospital tradition. Fiona is your anti-fan. She changed the schedule on purpose. That's why you're suffering now."
When the celebrity questioned Ryan, he dodged the truth and sided with his darling childhood friend.
The celebrity believed them and sicced his millions of fans on me.
In the end, I was run over and killed by an angry, unhinged fan.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day the celebrity checked in for surgery.
This time, I planned to let our "little sunshine" shine on everyone the way she deserved.

Emily pouted, "Fiona, hurry up and tell me, did the superstar Lucas Grant really come to our hospital?
"Even if you didn't say anything, I already knew. The celebrity blogs have been buzzing about it. I really wanted to look after Lucas myself. Fiona, please help me.
"If you don't help me, I'm telling Ryan. He told you to look out for me, so you can't just ignore him.
Looking at Emily pouting at me like some poor, mistreated kitten, I swallowed the words that almost slipped out, "You're a doctor, not a hospital nanny."
Because I realized I had been traveling back in time.
Emily was Ryan's junior by a year, and the two of them had grown up together like brother and sister.
She was already thirty, yet she still loved to pout and play the wide-eyed teenager. Every time I looked at her, I felt a headache coming on. A lot of the male doctors fell for her act—especially Ryan.
And with Ryan spoiling her every step of the way, someone as clueless and reckless as Emily managed to stay in the hospital this long.
She would march up to patients who chose cheaper local medication and scold them with puffed-up cheeks, "Why didn't you listen to Ryan and use the imported meds? They might cost ten times more, but they really help your condition.
"If you skip them now and don't get better, don't go blaming our hospital, okay? Trouble-making patients aren't the kind of patients we like around here."
And whenever she messed up, she would apologize as if she were the one being wronged. "Okay, okay, I mixed up your prescription with another patient's, but their meds were more expensive than yours. You didn't lose anything.
"If anything, you actually got the better end of the deal."
Every time something like this happened, Ryan forced me to step out and apologize, to clean up the mess. In the two years since Emily joined the hospital, I went from being the doctor everyone thanked to one with a nasty reputation.
The moment I voiced any complaints, all the male doctors—including Ryan—would accuse me of nitpicking.
I was still stewing over it when Ryan heard Emily's voice and walked in. "What's wrong, Emmy? You sound upset."
Previously, when Ryan walked in, I would patiently explain everything to him. I'd tell him that Lucas wasn't just any celebrity—one slip-up and his fans could drown our whole hospital with a single wave of outrage.
Ryan agreed with me.
But the second Emily started whining and clinging to him, he folded like wet paper. In the end, he still said, "How about this—Fiona, you take charge of Lucas, and let Emmy help out. She's loved him for years. We can't be that cruel."
Because of that decision, I ended up with a miserable death.
Thinking of that, I didn't bother explaining anything this time. I simply kept my mouth shut.
Seeing I didn't speak up, Emily assumed I felt guilty. She immediately repeated the same "begging" she used on me, this time adding even more dramatic adjectives before turning on Ryan.
Ryan gave me a conflicted look, but I just kept shuffling through the patient charts, pretending I was invisible.
He hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "Alright, Lucas will be under your care. But make sure you don't mess this up. He isn't an ordinary patient..."
He didn't even get to finish his words.
Emily squealed and threw her arms around him. "I knew you were the best, Ryan. I'm taking the afternoon off. I have to get a facial, fix my hair, and show up looking perfect for my idol."
After she left, Ryan frowned at me. "I gave you that look so you'd help me turn her down. How did you miss that?"
I blinked. "Turn her down? Why would we do that?"
Ryan was furious. "Emmy's young and sloppy. If something goes wrong, what's the hospital supposed to do?"
I sneered silently in my heart. So he did know exactly what kind of person Emily was.
But I still gave him a reassuring look and used the same words he'd used to placate me back then. "Come on, don't stress about it. Emmy's a doctor too—she went to the same school as us. Yeah, she sometimes does silly stuff that doesn't really hurt anyone, but she knows her stuff.
"None of us learned overnight, right?"
