Chapter 8

Around eleven, an unexpected visitor showed up and shattered the office's uneasy calm.

Mia was here.

She was decked out in a pink Dior suit, carrying the latest Hermès Birkin bag.

Her makeup was impeccable, her perfume overpowering.

She strutted into the design department like a proud peacock.

Everyone's eyes were instantly glued to her.

But she didn't spare anyone a single glance.

Her target was obvious.

She marched straight up to my desk, looking down at me. "Olivia, right?"

Her voice was laced with undisguised disdain and hostility.

I looked up at her, totally unfazed. "Got something to say?"

My calmness seemed to enrage Mia.

She slammed her designer bag down on my desk with a loud bang. "Got something to say? Hell yes, I do."

Her shrill voice made everyone in the office stop and stare.

Mia continued, "Back off from Henry, I'm warning you.

"Don't think your cheap tricks will get you anywhere with him.

"He told me yesterday you're some psycho who keeps stalking him.

"You're not even fit to shine my shoes."

Her words were absolutely vicious.

The colleagues around us all wore expressions eager for the show.

Amy tried to step in, but one fierce look from Mia sent her retreating.

I wasn't angry.

I only found it hilarious.

Henry, that useless jerk, really knew how to flip the script.

He actually made me out to be some crazy stalker who wouldn't leave him alone.

Good.

That made it easier for me to fight back with a clear conscience.

I looked at Mia, her face twisted with jealousy and rage, and slowly stood up.

Once I stood up, I was looking down at her, since I was a bit taller.

"Ms. White." I smiled. "First off, I have zero interest in your man. To me, he's just trash I already threw out.

"Second, you call me psycho? Let me ask you something.

"Would a normal woman cling to a married man's arm in public to claim him as her own?

"Would a normal woman, knowing full well he is married, still throw herself at him to be his mistress?

"Ms. White, you keep calling me shameless. What about you?

"Where's your shame?"

My voice was crisp and pleasant, yet every word cut like a knife.

Mia's face turned ghostly pale in a flash.

She never expected the new girl who looked so timid would actually dare to call her out in front of everyone.

And I did it with words that cut like a knife.

"You're full of crap." Mia was trembling with anger, jabbing her finger right at my face. "Henry told me himself he's single.

"You bitch. You're making up crap to ruin my reputation.

"Looks like you don't care about your job at Bluewave anymore."

She started throwing her weight around, trying to use her connections to intimidate me.

Mia suddenly turned and called out to Amy, who was standing not far away. "Amy, is this how your design department hires people?

"You bring in an employee with no integrity, who spouts lies and harasses male colleagues?

" I demand that you fire her. Immediately. Right now."

Amy looked conflicted.

Mia's father was a major client, and Amy couldn't afford to cross him.

Everyone in the office held their breath.

They were all waiting to see how I, the nobody with zero power, would get kicked out.

Just then, Henry appeared at the office door.

He looked haggard, with dark circles under his eyes, clearly sleepless.

When he saw what was happening, his expression was complicated, but he didn't say a word. It was obvious he was letting Mia have her way.

When Mia saw Henry, her arrogance went up a notch.

She looked like she could already picture me getting tossed out of the office, packing my bags in shame.

But I smiled.

With everyone watching, I pulled out my phone.

Then, I made my move.

I sent out a mass email I'd drafted earlier to everyone on the list.

The recipients included Amy, the HR Director, and the Legal Department.

The subject line read: [Formal Complaint: Sales Manager Henry Cole, Marital Infidelity, Misappropriation of Personal Assets, and Collusion with Third Party Mia White (Finance) Regarding Workplace Bullying.]
