Bella took a deep breath and accepted the folder.
She opened it and glanced at the first page of the bank statements. Her pupils constricted sharply.
Amy leaned in to look and let out a muffled gasp.
They were both veterans at the company, so they immediately grasped the gravity of what they were seeing.
This wasn't merely some office romance drama anymore.
This was straight-up embezzlement, with tons of money involved.
A sales manager abused his position to misappropriate his wife's premarital assets, all to curry favor with the daughter of a major client.
If this were ever substantiated, it would be a devastating blow to Bluewave Corporation's reputation.
Bella's face went pale in an instant.
She snapped the folder shut and gave Mia a hard stare. "Ms. White, you're mentioned in the email as well.
"It accuses you of having an inappropriate relationship with Henry and bullying Olivia at work.
"What do you have to say for yourself?"
Mia's lips trembled, but she couldn't get a single word out.
She'd never faced anything like this in her life.
Just then, her savior arrived.
The sharp click of high heels rang out from down the corridor, drawing closer.
A middle-aged woman in a tailored power suit strode in, radiating authority.
It was the head of the Legal Department, Kate Carter.
She was followed by two of her colleagues.
It was obvious they'd gotten my email too.
Kate looked deadly serious as she scanned the chaotic scene in the office.
Her gaze paused for a moment on Henry, lying unconscious on the floor, then shifted to Bella.
Kate said, "Ms. Warren, I basically understand what's happening.
"This is a really serious situation and needs to be taken very seriously.
"I recommend we put together an internal investigation team immediately.
"Until the investigation is finished, Henry and Mia should be suspended from all company responsibilities and access."
Bella nodded right away. "I agree."
The moment Mia heard the words "suspended", she screeched like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
She shrieked, "How dare you suspend me?
"What gives you the right?
"My dad is Charles White. He's your company's biggest client.
"You dare lay a finger on me? I'll have him pull all his business from you right now."
Kate looked at Mia coldly, like she was dealing with a spoiled child throwing a tantrum.
Kate said, "Ms. White, this is Bluewave Corporation, not your home.
"This company has its own rules. No exceptions for anyone.
"As for your father, the executives will handle him directly.
"Now, please leave your workstation immediately and cooperate with our investigation."
With that, she shot a look at her two colleagues.
They immediately stepped forward, one on each side, and escorted Mia out.
Mia completely lost it.
She struggled frantically, threw a tantrum, and screamed, "Let me go. You damn minions.
"Do you have any idea what happens to people who cross me?
"Olivia, you bitch. You won't get away with this. I'll ruin you."
Her insults echoed through the whole office.
Nobody cared about her anymore, and nobody was afraid of her now.
The looks people gave her held nothing but contempt and indifference.
In their eyes, she was nothing but a pathetic clown.
Just as the whole scene was reaching its peak, a calm but commanding voice rang out from the office doorway. "What are you all standing around for?
"Do you think the company hasn't been embarrassed enough already?"
Everyone turned to look, and the whole office sucked in a breath.
Standing in the doorway was a man in a sharp suit, strikingly handsome, with an air of distinguished elegance.
He looked to be in his early thirties, his eyes as deep as a frigid pond.
It was Ethan Shaw, CEO of Bluewave Corporation, the legendary figure who single-handedly dragged the company back from the brink of bankruptcy and made it an industry leader.
I wondered why he showed up here.
Everyone froze, not daring to breathe.
Ethan's gaze swept slowly across the room.
Then, his gaze locked onto me.
He looked at me, his eyes holding a subtle scrutiny and approval.
Then he spoke, addressing the entire room. "From now on, I'm taking this over personally.
"Legal Department and HR Department, set up a task force immediately. Get to the bottom of this.
"Anyone involved is suspended effective immediately, pending review."
His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an authority that brooked no argument.
He looked at me again, his tone calm. "Olivia, right? Come with me to my office."
