Chapter 5
I looked at Dylan's groveling posture and couldn't help but find it ridiculous.
"Dylan," I said, pulling my hand away, my voice cold as ice. "Did you forget who was the one who sent me to another man's bed?"
Dylan's face went pale, his eyes darkening with regret. "I... I didn't have a choice..." he stammered.
"No choice?" I sneered, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "So you could just sacrifice me and feel justified about it?"
I walked past him and stepped into the private room.
The room was thick with smoke, and a portly middle-aged man was all over two women in skimpy outfits.
When he saw me walk in, he paused for a second, then his eyes lit up with sleaze.
"Well, aren't you Mr. Pearson's beauty? What, did Mr. Pearson finally let you out for some fun?" he leered.
Sam was the one Dylan was so desperate to meet.
I'd run into him at a party before, and he'd given me that same gross look.
Dylan hurried in after me, bowing and scraping as he said, "Mr. Rivera, see, I've brought Sophie for you as you requested. About that loan..."
Sam's grin grew even more lecherous.
He shoved the two women aside and beckoned me over. "Come here, beautiful. Have a drink with me. If you make me feel good, forget 30 million. Even 300 million is nothing."
A flicker of hesitation crossed Dylan's face, but he quickly came over and whispered, "Sophie, it's just one drink."
As I looked at him, a sudden wave of sadness washed over me. This was the guy I've been in love with for three years.
For his own benefit, he could sell me out without a second thought, over and over.
I didn't move, just stared at Sam with icy contempt.
"Who the hell do you think you are, thinking you're worthy of drinking with me?" I sneered.
My words made the room go dead silent.
Sam's smile froze on his face, his expression changing rapidly.
He hadn't expected that the girl who was always docile around Dylan would actually talk back to him in public.
"What did you just say?" he exploded, slamming his hand on the table and jabbing a finger at me. "You bitch, acting all high and mighty? You really think I'll let you walk out of here tonight?"
Dylan's face turned deathly pale as he rushed forward, desperate to calm things down.
"M-Mr. Rivera, please don't be angry. Sophie's just a kid. She doesn't know any better. I'll apologize on her behalf," Dylan stammered.
As he spoke, he tried to drag me over to apologize to Sam.
I shook off his hand, pulled out my phone, and dialed a number. " William, I'm at Twilight, room 888," I said.
My voice was steady, without a trace of emotion.
There was a brief silence on the other end before William's icy voice came through.
"Who dared to touch you?" he said.
"A fat guy named Sam Rivera," I replied.
"Got it," he said.
William hung up.
The whole thing took less than ten seconds.
Sam watched me pretend to make the call, a contemptuous sneer playing on his lips.
"What, calling for help? I'd like to see who in Nunhill City has the guts to meddle in my business," he scoffed.
Dylan thought I was just bluffing, and started to sweat nervously.
"Sophie, cut it out. Just apologize to Mr. Rivera already," he urged.
I couldn't be bothered with him. I pulled out a chair, sat down, poured myself a glass of red wine, and took my sweet time savoring it.
It was as if this whole ridiculous scene had absolutely nothing to do with me.
Less than five minutes later, the door to the private room was kicked open with a bang.
The sudden noise made everyone jump.
Thomas burst in, flanked by a dozen bodyguards dressed in black, their presence downright menacing.
They moved with ruthless efficiency, locking down the entire room in seconds.
Sam and his two women screamed their heads off in terror.
Dylan just stood there, totally shell-shocked and helpless.
Right then, William showed up at the doorway.
He was still rocking a perfectly tailored black suit, his face cold and stern, with a chilling presence that made everyone in the room shudder.
His eyes swept across the room, sharp and calculating, before finally locking onto me.
When he saw I was unharmed, his icy expression softened just a little.
He strode over to me.
"William," I said, setting down my glass and flashing him a smile.
He walked up to me, took off his jacket, and draped it over my shoulders, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Were you scared?" he asked.
I shook my head.
Only then did William turn around, his eyes locking onto Sam, who was cowering in the corner, quaking in his boots.
"So, you're the one who thought you could force Sophie to have a drink with you?" William's voice was cold as steel, every word dripping with menace.
