Chapter 2
Evangeline put on a helpless look. "Alright, Bianca, I'll personally give you 300 dollars. Just stay and work overtime today."
Araminta's eyes went wide. "Evangeline! Are you serious? You're way too nice!"
Then she shot me a look. "Ugh, that's disgusting. Doesn't it feel dirty taking that money?"
If I didn't lose my temper, they might think I was just some harmless kitten.
I held out my hand. "Give me the 300 dollars."
Evangeline looked like she hadn't expected me to actually take her up on it. Her face went pale.
With everyone watching, she had no choice but to dig into her fake Louis Vuitton bag and pull out her fake wallet.
She counted out ten bills, her hands shaking, and handed them to me.
I glanced at the few coins left in her bag and let out a mocking laugh.
Evangeline quickly said, "Sorry, I usually just pay online, so I don't carry much cash."
Araminta jumped in to defend her. "Come on, Evangeline, everyone knows rich girls never carry cash! We all get it."
I didn't care if she got it or not. I grabbed the cash and threw it right in Araminta's face.
The bills hit her with a sharp smack, leaving a red mark on her cheek.
"Does it burn your hand? You look desperate for this money. Why don't you take it and stay for the overtime yourself?" I said.
With that, I spun around in my heels and strutted off.
I didn't give a damn about Araminta's nasty swearing behind me or Evangeline's soft words trying to calm her down.
When I got home, Dad noticed I was in a bad mood. He poured me a cup of tea and came over to comfort me.
"What's wrong, Bianca? Did something happen at work?" he asked.
I rubbed my eyes. "It's nothing, Dad. I can handle it."
Dad gently patted my head. "Don't bottle it up if you're feeling wronged. I told you to keep a low profile so you could really learn, not so you'd have to put up with this kind of stuff."
"I know, Dad. Don't worry, no one can push me around," I said.
I sneered in my heart, "Evangeline and Araminta, this isn't over yet. Let's see who gets the last laugh."
The next day, before I could even sit down at my desk, I got a call from Dorian Blackwell, telling me to come to his office.
As soon as I hung up, I turned around and saw Evangeline giving me a taunting look, while Araminta looked way too excited.
Great, these two idiots were up to their usual crap again. Couldn't they just leave me alone for one damn minute?
As soon as I walked into the office, Dorian started chewing me out.
"Bianca, I heard you didn't listen to your team leader? And you got into it with a coworker?" he snapped.
"Mr. Blackwell, I don't recall any company rule about mandatory overtime. Or do the rules change depending on who you are? And about that fight. Who did I supposedly beat up?" I shot back.
Dorian was clearly thrown off by how blunt I was, and for a moment, he was at a loss for words.
"Rules are set in stone, but people aren't. Your team leader asked you to work overtime because it's all part of the team's schedule. What's your deal with refusing? Are you trying to go against the company?" he said.
I nearly burst out laughing. Team schedule? More like brown-nosing the higher-ups and still missing the mark.
"Mr. Blackwell, do you have anything else? If not, I'll get back to work," I said.
Dorian frowned. "What's with you? We're supposed to be a team. No one should act like they're special. If everyone pulled stunts like you, this company would fall apart."
"And I heard you even charged Evangeline for overtime?" he added.
He was so full of himself, talking like he actually owned the place.
I shrugged. "I didn't take a single cent. If you don't believe me, go ahead and check the security footage."
As soon as I brought up the cameras, Dorian started sweating.
"Oh, really? Maybe I heard wrong. Anyway, you're all interns who started together, so try to get along," he said, waving me out of his office.
When I walked out of the office totally fine, Evangeline looked like she'd seen a ghost.
I just wanted to mind my own business, but some people just don't know when to quit.
I couldn't stop thinking about how nervous Dorian looked. Maybe those cameras caught something big.
Before clocking out, I walked past the break room and caught Evangeline and Araminta whispering behind my back.
"Evangeline, you're way too nice. That's why people walk all over you. If I had your status, no way I'd let her get away with it!" Araminta said.
Evangeline's voice oozed fake sweetness. "Don't say that, Araminta. We're all interns who started together. No need to make a scene."
Araminta's voice got even shriller. "But still, she's such a cheapskate. Have you seen the bags she drags around every day? All fakes! And that LV she had the other day was the same as yours. What a total copycat!"
"Shh, Araminta, keep it down. Don't let everyone hear. I don't want Bianca to feel embarrassed," Evangeline said.
Honestly, she was just itching to broadcast it to the whole office. She might as well have grabbed a megaphone and shouted it herself.
I kicked the door open with a bang. "Well, well, look who's here. What are you two gossiping about me this time?"
They both jumped at the loud noise.
