Chapter 1
On my first day at the company, someone snapped a photo of me rolling up in my Aston Martin and posted it in the interns' group chat.
Not long after, someone couldn't help but show off in a low-key way, "Nothing much, just a little present from my dad for starting work."
I didn't say anything, just to keep my real identity hidden.
But she didn't stop there. She not only claimed my car as her own, but she also tried to steal my identity.
Hell no, I wasn't about to let that slide.
An hour before my first day at work, my dad kept nagging me to keep a low profile at the company.
I just turned around, jumped into my Aston Martin, and headed off to work.
Honestly, this was the most low-key ride I had.
Before I even set foot in the building, a photo of me stepping out of my car in the parking lot was already making the rounds in the interns' group chat.
By the time I noticed, the photo had already been buried under a flood of excited comments.
[Whoa, is that an Aston Martin? Which boss rolls up in a car like that?]
[Wait, that looks like an intern in the pic. Showing up in a luxury car is kinda over the top, right?]
[Who's this rich princess coming down to hang with us interns?]
[And that's a limited-edition Louis Vuitton bag. I'm literally dying of envy.]
[I heard the CEO's daughter is in our intern batch. Maybe that's her?]
The chat was blowing up, and I was racking my brain for a way to handle this mess.
Then someone with a kitten profile pic chimed in: [Hey guys, sorry! My dad gave me this car as a little gift for starting my job.]
Her words set off a storm in the group chat.
When I walked into the office, everyone had already crowded around the girl with the kitten avatar.
"Oh! The heiress is actually right here next to me!" one intern squealed.
"Miss Princess, please put in a good word for me so I can survive this internship!" another begged.
"Your bag looks crazy expensive, Miss Princess. Mind if I touch it for good luck?" someone else chimed in.
Oh, this was getting interesting. She was rocking the same bag as me.
Checked the newbie list against her face. It turned out she was Evangeline Kane.
Guess that was why people thought she was the boss's daughter. My dad got the same last name.
Evangeline flashed a gentle smile. "Hey guys, I'm Evangeline Kane. Can you keep today's little incident between us? I really don't want my dad to find out..."
She left her sentence hanging, leaving everyone's imaginations running wild.
Everyone exchanged those knowing glances, like they were all in on the secret.
Guess she was just slumming it with us interns for a while.
I was the only one staring at the car keys on my desk, second-guessing myself.
Did I seriously drive the wrong car?
Later that night, I scrolled back to that sneaky pic. Turns out all you could see was the car's nose and my legs.
We were both rocking pink skirts, so when she claimed it was her, nobody even noticed.
Ever since Evangeline pulled off her transformation into the "CEO's daughter," her status in the group shot through the roof.
The interns turned into her personal servants overnight.
They were running errands, fetching coffee, and basically doing everything for her. Honestly, it was like they were ready to wipe her butt if she asked.
Even the supervisor was constantly fussing over her, giving her the cushiest assignments imaginable.
Actually, she didn't even have any work to do.
I thought about what Dad said about laying low, so I kept my mouth shut and let her have her moment.
With everyone focused on her, I just kicked back and enjoyed the quiet.
Thanks to her newfound status, Evangeline got promoted to team leader of the interns.
Meanwhile, since I refused to suck up to the so-called "CEO's daughter," everyone started ganging up on me.
Just before we headed out, Evangeline called my name. "Bianca, do me a favor and stay late to work overtime tonight, okay?"
I stared at her, totally baffled. "But I've already finished everything. Why am I the one stuck here?"
Her number one minion, Araminta Gray, piped up with a smirk. "Evangeline's taking the whole team out to Saffron & Sage for dinner after work, except you, of course. So guess who gets to stay behind and work overtime? Yep, that'd be you."
We had barely been here a week, and they had already got their own little squad going.
"Yeah, it's not like you've got anything else to do. We're all in this together, so if the work doesn't get done, we all take the fall. You're not gonna bail on us, right?" someone piped up.
"Why me? If Evangeline's throwing a dinner party, then she should finish the work herself. She can rope in whoever she likes, but I'm not staying late!" I fired back.
Before Evangeline could say a word, Araminta let out a cold snort.
"Who do you think you are, coming for Evangeline Kane? Do you even know who she is?" she snapped.
Evangeline tugged at Araminta's sleeve. "Enough, Araminta. Don't throw my family name around to scare people. Let's not do that."
Araminta sighed dramatically. "Seriously, Evangeline, you're way too soft. Any random nobody thinks they can push you around."
I really couldn't stand their stuck-up princess act, but I had to bite my tongue and swallow my anger.
"Anything else? If not, I'm outta here," I said.
