Chapter 5

I didn't dare to move a muscle.

Ryan was just as tense.

We lay there stiff as boards, each of us glued to our own side of the bed.

Only Sophie, right in the middle, was totally out of it. She rolled over and flung one small leg over Ryan's stomach.

Ryan tensed up for a moment.

Then I heard the softest sigh.

In the darkness, his voice sounded a bit hoarse.

"Can't fall asleep?" he asked.

"Yeah," I murmured.

"Can't get used to the bed?" he asked.

"A little," I admitted.

Another silence fell between us.

"Julia," he said.
