Chapter 7
As Layla floated in the room filled with water, her mind filled with a series of questions, questions she had shut out for the last month and three weeks since she got rescued by the witches.
What did I ever do to deserve this?
Is being a witch a bad thing?
What was crime?
Why can’t have a normal life like everyone, why is my life filled with drama and sadness?
As she pondered, she realized once again she was in the face of death and worse she hadn’t brought Raven to justice, she hadn’t made Damien and her father pay for everything they made her go through and for also attempting to kill her.
“I don’t want to die” She muffled with her head lifted as the pressure of water in the room continued to rise.
“I am not ready to die, not now please” She continued to cry.
“Someone, please anyone, I beg you, please save me, please” She begged and cried out.
“Sally?” She suddenly remembered the lady who had helped her in the hands of Beca. Her eyes lit up as she found a means to survive.
During her short time in the coven, Layla had spent the most time in the library, reading the histories of witches, their myths, legends, folklore, and everything, she wanted to be familiar with everything.
During one of her time, she read about a spell, it's a soul-bonding spell, in times of danger, she can call out her soul and send it to someone who could help you. It was a good spell but also with its disadvantages, if she cast the spell wrong, her soul would be trapped and taken to the dark world and she would die.
“This is my only chance, I won’t die,” She said to herself.
The water up to her mouth and each time she breathes or lets out a gasp, she swallows a large quantity of the water.
Layla closed her eyes, she curled her hands together “Le, sa, sa” She muffled,
“Le, sa, sa” She whispered again, and for the last call, she took a deep breath “Le, sa, sa” She called the last one and collapsed.
BANG!
BANG!!
BANG!!!
Sally groaned and turned around the bed, she groaned as she heard the knock on her door “Who could it be at this ungodly hour of the night” She grunted, she tried to brush it off but the knock came again.
BANG!!!
Sally grunted and got out of bed, she was ready to give whoever it was the word of her life.
She yanked the door “WHAT DO YOU WANT!” She yelled then she gasped, before she was Layla’s but in front of a cloud, tears were in her eyes.
“Please help me,” Layla said to her.
“Oh my goodness” Sally gasped, she wore her sandals and rushed over to Layla’s chamber. Arriving at the chamber she sensed spells and it wasn’t the spell Layla had cast.
“Beca that wench!” She grunted, realizing who it was. She tried yanking the door but it wouldn’t budge, she took a step back, and with her hands furled together, she cast a few spells, her hands began to glow and an energy surge emitted from her palm, she hurled it at the door and it burst open, water flowed out and so did Layla’s body.
“Layla!”
“Layla!” Sally screamed.
She rushed over and lifted her to a more dry and secure place, she began compression, over and over and over but Layla wouldn’t return.
“Layla, Layla, please don’t die on me, please I beg you” Sally mumbled as she continued to compress, tears flowed down her cheek and she began to tremble.
“Lay, come on, please” She cried but Layla wasn’t responding and she was getting pale.
Something was wrong, Layla wasn’t responding but it wasn’t because she had died.
Sally stopped for a moment as something crossed her mind, she shut her eyes and placed two fingers on her head, and her eyes suddenly lit up. Layla’s soul had not returned to her body and without her soul, Layla wasn’t going to wake up.
Sally was scared she didn’t know what to do, Layla didn’t complete the spell she cast when she sent her soul to Sally and now the soul is lost and doesn’t know its way back to Layla.
Sally realized this and she knew what to do instantly, she furled her hands together and said a chant that lasted two minutes. She felt an energy surge next to her and she knew Layla’s soul was back.
Instantly, she began compressing again and Layla coughed out, gasping and panting.
“Oh my goodness…Thank goodness, I almost thought you wouldn’t be able to make it” Sally muffled, tears filled her eyes but she fought back while panting.
Sally took Layla to her room, she prepared some hot tea and gave her some tonic to feel better.
After a day, Layla was better but she wasn’t going to sit still.
“What do you mean I can’t tell Mystic what happened, those girls almost killed me, if not for you I would be dead!” Layla lashed out with her brows furrowed.
“I know, I know but right now no one is on your side until you prove yourself worthy, no one will want to have anything to do with you” Sally explained calmly.
“I don’t care, I need to tell Mystic what happened” She blurted and walked out of the room.
“Layla!”
“Layla!” Sally called but Layla was not going to sit back and be treated badly.
She barged into the room, “Layla, what is the matter!” Mystic blurted.
“Did you know?” Layla asked
“Know what?” Mystic grunted
“That Beca tried to kill me, she filled my room with water and I honestly don’t know how but Sally saved me” She explained.
“So what?” Mystic grunted
Layla arched her brows, she was sure she didn’t hear her correctly “I said Beca tried to kill me and Sally saved me if she was any minutes late then I would be dead” Layla repeated.
“But you are not dead, as you said Sally saved you so why are you making a fuss out of it?” Mystic grumbled.
Layla stood speechless, her brows were arched and suddenly she became dumb, she didn’t know how to react or what to say.
“What if I had died?” She asked
“Then I might punish them but you didn’t die so why should I punish them besides you still have a month and few weeks to go to prove yourself, instead of whining like a spoilt little brat, you should spend more time trying to make the people see why they should trust you,” Mystic grunted.
It was at that moment Layla realized that she was alone and these people were no different from her father’s people who had stoned her.
Layla clenched her fist as she glared at Mystic “I am not going to give up, I will make sure that prove myself worthy”
