Chapter 3
Layla’s POV
“No! No!”I shook my face in disbelief, even though the scene in front of me was enough evidence that the deed had truly been done.
Different body parts are laid on the floor, heads without bodies, and bodies missing different parts. It is a horrible scene to see, I felt sick to my stomach as bile ran up from my stomach to my mouth leaving a bitter taste and making me want to puke.
The Redmoon pack had done this!! They had stormed my mother’s pack, attacked the coven members, and killed them in the most gruesome way ever. My heart felt like it fell right into my belly.
I stood there as tears rolled down my cheeks, words could not escape through, I just stood there as memories of our last meeting flashed through my mind. I remember the anger they had when I refused to become the next ga high priestess. I was looking forward to becoming the Luna before returning and explaining why I had to make the decision I made but it’s too late now, my decision had cost their lives but then …
What was their crime?
What have we done to deserve this inhumane act?
Why does being different make them the enemy
Even the beasts and monsters that lurked around in the shadows wouldn’t do this.
And the most horrifying part of it …
They killed children too!! Innocent children!
The Redmoon pack are monsters, every one of them!
Tears as hot as lava, flowed down my cheeks as I slowly walked round the empty pack, my legs occasionally stepping on different body parts and I groaned and whimpered each time.
I don’t know why but I wanted to save someone, I searched for any possible survivors but couldn’t find one.
My family was all gone, they had been killed, as I looked around my eyes landed on my cousin Raven’s body lying lifeless on the ground, my heart dropped to my stomach, and I dashed towards her and held her cold body in my hands. Her eyes were wide open, her dark lifeless pupils staring into my mind. I felt fear wash through me.
“No”
“No”, I mumbled, yanking her in my hands
“No!” I screeched as I turned to Damien, why did he have to do this?
“Raven?”
“Raven, Raven please Open your eyes, it’s me, Layla, don’t play this prank on me and wake up, please I beg you” I muffled, yanking her in my hands, hoping she miraculously comes back to life.
“Raven!” I screamed in disbelief. She was meant to be the next High Priestess as I had given up the position and assigned it to her instead. She had warned me about my decision, she warned me about Damien.
All her words were true, I shouldn’t have let this happen. It is all my fault, I allowed myself to be deceived by Damien. I choose love blindly over my whole family here. Their blood was on my hands. I let this happen.
I closed her eyes slowly before kissing her forehead, I have lost my best friend, she is gone forever. Worst of all, we weren’t on speaking terms. I had raised my voice at her and walked away from the coven all because of Damien’s instruction.
“What have you done!” I yelled as tears rolled down my cheek, my heart was breaking, I could feel it shattering as I held Raven in my hands.
“I am talking to you, Damien, what have you done? Why did you do all this? What did I ever do to you… you already rejected me why did you have to go after my people? Why did you have to kill my cousin? Why did you harm my family, you dimwit!” I yelled,
Damien glared at turned his back on me, the disdain in his eyes was unlike anything I had ever seen before.
“Damien, you son of bitch! You bastard!” I screeched, as memories of turning my back on my mother’s legacy flashed through once again, I swore I wouldn’t regret making that decision but right now, I can’t say the same thing.
“You wait until my father hears about this, you pay dearly, and you will regret the moment you did this!” I thundered “You wished you had left them alone, you will wish you had not met me!”
“Ha, ha” he sniggered
My brows arched confused
“Is that supposed to be funny?” I rasped, disgusted by his nerve.
“Think about it, do you think I would have done this without your father’s consent?” He blurted, turning to me, the smile on his face was pure evil, and the look in his eyes was scary,
how did I never see this side of him
Where did the man I love and cherish vanish?
Who is this man, and where is the man I loved?
But what is this thing about my father giving him consent to destroy and kill my mother’s people
“What?” I exclaimed, disbelief was obvious in my voice and he could feel it.
“That is not possible, my father will never do something like that!” I lashed
“Really? Everyone in this kingdom knows that your father detests your mother’s people, and he had been looking for a better way to get rid of them completely from the kingdom…. And besides, do you really think that I will kill your father’s wife’s people without his consent?” he paused and chuckled “It was all his idea in the first place, he was also the one that made me reject the offer from the witches…. Oh you naive little Layla” he chuckled
“What?” I rasped, my ears must be bad, I wasn’t I heard that correctly
“Why will my father..?”
“Why?”
something didn’t feel right.
My father will never do this, but he is also right, No matter how strong and influential and powerful Damien is, he will never be able to harm my mother’s people without my father’s consent.
“But then why?” I froze where I stood as tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably.
“Why would he?”
“I knew his feelings for them weren’t good but then why? If people are his late wife’s people, why will he do this?” I muffled
“Never trust people, not even your father!” Damien added
No, something is not right, there is something else going on, there is something else that I don’t know of, something that would have prompted my father to do this.
I heard footsteps from behind me, I turned and I saw my father’s guards, they bowed to Damien.
“Greetings Alpha” they greeted and Damien nodded
“Alpha Luther, requests for Layla” one of the guards blurted and I stood there speechlessly.
